  1. Fly tying? Yes, but in a different way... How to tie flies without a vice. https://www.moscofilia.com/ephemera-vulgata-english.html
  2. I know the split thread technique, but I have never used it, if I have to tie a very small fly, I simply use fine thread... With such a big fly like the CDC Brown Sedge, the Uni 8/0 works really well and the result is great...

  6. Hi Guys, here in Italy April is a great month for the first hatches of small mayflies of grey color and these simple flies are one of my first choice to tempt trout, expecially in the warmer hours of the day, when the insects are more active. I tied also a winged pattern of this fly, you can see it on this page of my website http://www.moscofilia.com/favorita-grigia.html but I prefer the variant in this photo.
  7. The hook I used in the video was an old Partridge E3AY barbless size 14, but on my rivers I use quite often the size 16. Luca
  8. Many thanks my friends! I am pleased you like it. This is an old pattern, but I continue to use it with high success, expecially in the summer evenings. Luca

  11. The panorama of nymph fishing in my country is dominated in these days by a Gold Head of Spanish origin: the Perdigon. I filmed a video about this fly and I pleased to present it on this forum. if you wish to get the material list to tie the fly, have e look to this link: it is written in Italian, but with a web translator it is easy to understand what you need http://www.moscofilia.com/epoxy-green-gold-head.html https://youtu.be/YGjni_DWJoo

  14. Hi Guys, as I wrote in my previous topic, I was working to the translation in English of an article about a very special fly that not requires a vice to be tied and I am pleased to present it on this forum today, as a Christmas present. This fly was built by my friend Terenzio, who is well know also for his handmade silk lines, and is really unique in the tying field. My translation probably is not the best and I will be pleased to receive any correction from you, so to make more clear the text. Here you can read my sbs piece: Ephemera Vulgata
  15. Hi Harold, I promise, what I will show you will impress you and I say that because it impressed me as well. I hope my translation will be enough good and I will appreciate any corrections to it so to make the text more ejoyable for the English spoken fly tiers.
  16. Hi my friends, thanks to your nice feedback. Tomorrow I will start to translate one of the most interesting article of my site. Thi piece describes step by step how to tie the particular flies of Terenzio Zandri, which do not require a traditional vice to be tied. The flies built in this way have super imitative qualities and I am sure that they will be interesting for many of you, also because for years this techinque was kept like a secret, but recently Terenzio decided to make public it. The name of the fly I will drescibe is Ephemera Vulgata, like the real insect, and for the moment I have published only the Italian version of my piece. Ciao Luca
  17. Hi Guys, my work as translator, if I can call in this way, is continuing and I have just published a new piece written in English on my web site. In this occasion I describe step-by-step how to tie e nice and very alluring emerging nymph for fishing just below the water surface. With this pattern, in light brown color, I caught one of my best ever brown trout: an experience really unique. This is the link P. L. IVORY EMERGER
  18. You are very kind and it is a pleasure for me to receive such nice compliments! Many thanks. I am continuing my work as translator and I suppose to publish a new piece in English within a few days: in this occasion I will present a pretty nymph for fishing just under the water surface. A deadly pattern which helped me to catch one of my best ever trout, a fish that I will never forget. Many of the articles of my website were published on some magazines here in Italy, but also in the States and in UK. Some flies are extracted from my books titled "Flies, Mosche da pesca" and "Mosche, per trote, temoli e salmoni". Now that the paper is at the end of its life, or nearly at the end, I want to continue my work, or better my hobby, by collecting many of my articles on Moscofilia, so to give them a second life and offering to the anglers also a traslation in English of them. You can already see part of this work on Moscofilia: as I wrote, if you go on the pages A-Z and click on the word English which is beside the name of some flies, you can read the article about that fly in your language. You can find some nice piece, they are nice for me, including a few about some of the most complicate classic salmon flies, such as the Jock Scott or the Black Argus. Quite shortly I will start to translate the piece about the Ephemera Vulgata, you can find it written in Italian on my site. The buildind process of this fly does not require a traditional vice and the tying style is really unique. Ciao Luca
  19. Hi Friends, you made mention of the Bloody Butcher, so I put here my small contribute about this nice wet fly, sorry the article is still in my language BLOODY BUTCHER
  20. Hi friends, motivated by your nice feedback, I wish to propose you another my piece translated in English. This time I describe step-by-step how tie one of the most popular dry fly in the world, the Royal Wulff. There is one interesting aspect of this fly: you can tie in the wings after built the body, in practice this is the old style and is shown in my photographic sequence and video. As an alternative, you can tie in the wing first and then all the others materials and this is the most popular way to build the Royal Wulff nowdays. This is the link to the article: ROYAL WULFF

Steve you have a PM. Ciao Luca
  24. Hi Guys, I have been continuing to work to my site and today I have updated it posting a new pattern.
