Thanks for all of the replies! I am going to sit down and spend more time practicing the whip finish. I watched a quick video how to do it by hand and it didnt seem too bad. I appreciate all the input! Brian

Hey all. I am new to tying just got a cheap cabelas starter package to see if I would like it. Anyways I am having a blast but am wondering if people on here have any thoughts on using a whip finish vs a half hitch to finish the fly. My package came with a cheap standard whip finish tool (the type that doesnt swivel) and have not been able to figure it out. I have just been putting about 4 half hitches with some head cement to finish. Thanks! Brian

Haven't tried any still water fly fishing yet but I need to. I enjoy trout streams too much.

Hello all! My name is Brian and I recently moved to Las Vegas and I have not had any time lately to fly fish since all trout streams are about 3 hours drive and I am going through fly fishing withdrawls! My wife bought me a cabelas fly tying kit for Christmas so I can prepare for some spring time fishing. I am now hooked on tying. Anyone else on these forums from the Las Vegas area?
