  1. You can send now. I have moved and ready to receive them.
  2. Got my flies today. This my first swap and it was great seeing everyone's flies. Great looking flies all around. This was so much fun can't wait to do more.
  3. The Fly Shop in redding CA has a house brand wadder that's quite nice. I have been thinking of buying a pair for my self.
  4. I think the Orange Puff I am doing might work with some very big color changes.
  5. Along with bass and stripers. I think there is some potentional for carp on some of these files.
  6. I think overall this is a great start. The advice above is great. I would agree the grizzly hackle is to long it should match the brown hackle in length. Last night I just tied 2 dozen of these so funny you posted this. I would also suggest to go with the hackle tail it makes for a very nice fly when its done. I also noticed you ran dubbing under the hackle. I have always stopped my dubbing half way down the hook shank. I am not sure which pattern you were following I am sure this is a technique used but I feel like most people stop the dubbing. You should try to bulk tie 10 flies in the same pattern and size when learning a pattern it helps so much to do them all at once.
  7. Sending you a name now. You can do either. Waiting a few weeks would be great that way I can really mange them coming in.
  8. Hello All I wanted to let everyone know that I am moving in two weeks. This was a rather quick move. My flies are finished and ready to be sent out. But I will be giving you my new address which will allow me to get them when I get to the new address in 2 weeks. I will be able to send the files out as soon as I receive them. This will not change the final due date at all. I just wanted everyone to know about the change. I will PM final address. Please attach toe tags to each fly and a return address and with correct postage.
  9. Thanks boynabubble. I have been tying them a lot too really get them down. Glad you liked them can't wait to see everyone else files.
  10. My flies are off to you. Let me know if you want the tracking number?
  11. +1 to this point. We could all be using silk lines, paw reels and cane rods. Would be interesting to catch a carp on that setup.
  12. I personally like specific things. I hate multi-tools for the reason that most of the time they are a bunch of tools together and almost all are less use full then there full size counterparts. Sometimes it makes sense. I don't mind bringing my leatherman around but it has its place. Quick fixes to things I just need to work, it is great for. But for my high-end equipment I am not using it to fix them. I have bought a Bass specific weight forward line (on sale) it turns over big furry flies really nicely. I was surprised and I guess that's the point. If you notice the benefit then its for you if not then do what ever you want.
  13. I also tied a few beach bugs up a couple of weeks ago. Being waiting to really test them.
  14. rich mc 3" will be fine no problem with that lenght.
  15. Great! Thanks for filling out the Swap. I have also started tying a few of my favorites. Here are some other links to sites I like for surf flies. I am going to add another pattern to my selection I am going to do an orange puff. http://www.zenflyfishing.com/ http://www.flyfishthesurf.com/SurfFlies.html
  16. I like kits. I know this opinion is not shared by everyone here. What I found with the kits is the tools and materials are not that great but it is a start. I just went through this myself. I wanted to start tying after years of not tying. So I but a kit just to make sure I was committed to tying before investing really money in tools and materials. The best part of a kit is it gives you examples of things you don't like. I think if I was to just by good tools out right I would buy a few I did not like would have to re-buy anyways. I also found there are always nuggets in kits things you will hold onto for awhile in till you need an upgrade. For a true beginner I like kits. I would focus on kits with nice tools. I saw a kit at my local fly shop that had a dyna-king kingfisher vice in it. It was very reasonable priced maybe $150. If you can find this kit on line this would be a great place to start.
  17. Just one fly pre person. So if we get five people you will need to tie 5 flys. You won't get your flies back just one fly from each person so five new patterns for you.
  18. 24" on a size 20 midge. Pretty stoked.
