So I can add the Renzetti Traveler to my list of vises that i'm looking at now, any opinions on this? I can get it for cheaper than the Peak where I am.

Thats the way you learn, seriously though, don't be afraid to fish anything you tie, its surprising what fish will eat. Also, sometimes the sparser a fly is the better it will fish too.

If it were me, and to tell you the truth I haven't actually done this before, I would pull some of the fluffiest stuff on the feather off the stem, and chop it up into small pieces. You then try to do something like this: It will probably be hard at first with marabou, you may just have to chop it up really fine if it is tough, or try with something like dryer lint first to get a feel for it.

Also, don't worry about bending the hook like he does at the end, I just noticed that. I'm not sure if I would necessarily trust the hooks that came in the kit with that.

Here is a link to a similar pattern, not exactly with what you have but the same idea for the tail. I would use a dubbed marabou body or the chenille if I were you, and don't worry about the bead for now. Ok, there are lots of good flies you can tie with marabou. It makes great tails for streamer flies, and you can even cut up the fibres a bit and try to use them as dubbing. I would say even if you just tie in a marabou tail, then use either a marabou dubbing body or chenille body it would probably be an effective fly. White is also a good colour to start with because it is easy to use a marker to change the colour.

How huge of a feather is it? Sounds like either marabou or ostrich, could be wrong though. Either could be very useful

So what all in total do you have left besides the deer hair? That may help you decide what you should tie next

I'm still debating between this vise and a Peak rotary. I like the ease of use and the hook holding power of the stonfo, but the Peak is a little cheaper and has a more true rotary action.

I am looking at upgrading my vise, and I stumbled across one of these at a local shop a little while ago. Seems well built, but I cannot find very much about them online. It seemed nice to tie on for the few flies I tied with it, just not sure if I want to go with something that isn't as popular or well known as some of the other vises.

Just reading this thread now. In the video it almost looks like the hook is not lined up with the bottom of the groove. Is this true or just the camera angle? I have a Dyna-King Kingfisher, and it will not hold any hook solidly enough to break it pushing up when it is not all the way in the groove.

It was a while ago last time I saw them, something like $7 or $8 for a 10 pack. I'm in Canada, so I expect them to be a bit more, maybe I just have to keep looking for those 100 packs

I am looking at getting some double sided razor blades for hair trimming, and I was wondering if anyone knows of where I could buy them at a reasonable price. I have looked at my local drug stores, but they seem to be fairly expensive for what you get.

Just curious here, but what exactly constitutes good Coq de Leon? I have a small package of Hareline "speckled ginger" and the colouring seems good but the fibres do not seem quite as stiff as those on a good spade hackle

I believe the Kingfisher has the same jaws as the Barracuda, smaller than the Squire and Professional. I can tie in that range without adjusting the forcing cone, it just does not need so much force for the smaller hooks. I guess it just seemed strange to me that no adjustment is required, even though the wire diameter can be so much different. How tight do you have the jaws set?
