  3. Your grandfathers fly rod is priceless when kept in the family I'd re-wrap put on some fresh cork it and keep passing it down.

You got that right. I'm never gonna sell it. just didn't want to do anything to de value it. I can't wait to land my first fish on it. Unless my daughter has a son,it will go to my nephew who is my fishin buddy

  4. This is my first time hosting a swap, and I tried to come up with something different and fun. Now you could say there's no such thing as a new, orignal pattern, but if you're like me, you just haven't seen every pattern ever tied!. And you saw something, got a fly in a swap, thought of what you believe would catch fish, or got some new material and it sparked an idea for a fly that, as far as you were concerned, was "orginal." And that's good enough for me!

So it's any inovation you've made in a pattern, something you came up with yourself, or anything else that makes it something beyond copying a pattern from somewhere. We're not being picky purists here... it's all in fun! Any species. I also think it would be interesting if folks posted how/why they came up with the fly.

Swap is open to 15 tiers, deadline is May 15th. All other swap rules apply.

By the way, here's the link to an interesting article on "new" patterns:

  5. If the splits in the grip you mentioned are those four grooves most visible in the right image, they are probably original to the rod. I have an SB which have more grooves than yours.

Wow, thats interesting, it's just part of the original manufacturing? That's even better cause I like the comfort grip design on the handle. looks like it will only need some ferrule replacement and some re-wrapping on thread.

  6. It depends a lot of the condition. There's still a good number of old South Bend rods circa 40's-50's out there but they were pretty good cane rods so they still have some decent value. If it's in really good shape then it would be worth around $150 or right in that range. If it's needing some work (re-wrapped/grip worn and or small chunks out of the cork) or anything like that then most those that need some work will sell for anywhere between $60-$80. If you can take a pic of it I could tell you better.

sounds like it's the $60- $80 range. Needs some re-wrapping and guide replacement. also, comfortgrip handle is dried out and has split rings showing. Thinking about having it restored so I can use it. I'll post a pic later today. Thanks for the info

  7. I have a copy of Michael Sinclair's Bamboo Rod Restoration Handbook. It may not contain information about every

Bamboo rod South Bend ever made. But the book doesn't contain any information about a 341. It does contain

information about a 346. Is it possible what you believed is a "1" was originally a "6" ?

Yes it is a 346 I read it wrong
