Its been a few years and now I have the time to get back out fishing. I'm looking for a good floating line to use on Panfish. The rod is a Sage Graphite II 690 DS. Its 9'0", 3-1/2 oz.. It calls for a #6 line. I really don't know much about the "Tapers" and what I used years back on my other rods were just a level line. Just looking for a good all around floating line. Should I stay with the #6 Wt. they recommend or go up or down? Any suggestions??
Thanks, CSB

I see he's located in Madison Wi. and I'm in Oconomowoc, about 40 mi. away. I wonder if he has a retail store out there?

Does anyone from Wis. know if their are any shows/seminars going on around the state? If so when and where.
Thanks, CSB

Salm, I was just going to mention the old Herter's catalog from back in the early 60's. I spent many a hour looking thru that, for those Special Materials.

I have done some looking around but I don't see Raymond C. Rumpf & Son around anywhere. I purchased some fly tying materials from them years back, but I don't see them now. I could be looking in the wrong places though. Are they still in business?

I learned from Vern Lunde owner of Lunde's Fly Fishing Chalet out in Mt. Horbe Wi.. I had been buying some materials from Vern and ran into him at a show out in Cottage Grove Wi.. He sat me down and showed how it was done. I worked at it for a while and got it down, and like most things the more you work at it the better and easier it gets. Well that was 24 yrs. ago, how time flies when your having fun.

Bob, How long do they usually stay "Fresh" in the original packaging before you have noticed them becoming dried out?

I have a couple of Metz Necks and they seemed to be dried/drying out. When you go to wrap the neck hackle on a fly they snap. Its like the shaft is dried out. Is their anyway I can bring these necks back to life? Seems that I heard years back that you could brush a coating of Glycerin on the back of the neck and let it sit for a period of time and that would rejuvenate the neck?
For future reference, how should necks be stored to get the most life out of them?
Thanks, CB

Steaming your chenille...

I picked up an old teapot and took the whistler out of it, works great. Whenever I tie flies with the chenille body I'll steam them. I put them in a small screen strainer, make a couple of passes thru the steam. It brings the bodies and the feathers right into shape.
