joseph russell's flies have arrived. Once i get the last set i will turn them around!
-
Got them. Nicely tied! 4 left. 2 have contacted me and i am not expecting the other 2 to come thru. I have sent multiple messages and no reply + not logged in for a while. When I receive the last 2 sets I will turn them around. Any extra flies will be split up as evenly/randomly as possible. And I will post pics.

"10 sec tack free vs 10 min tack free? simple answer 10 min all the way. what happened to the rest of my questions? if you feel that using a secondary light source to finish is a minus for the Lina resin and a plus your yours; then just say so." yes, I need one light. finally i would like to ask you is there any other tests that you would like me to perform? i'm asking for the tests that you know the Lina resin will fail miserably at. i want your best one-two combination knockout for performance, cost aside. i have been quick to respond to any of your questions, yet you seem to be dodging most of mine it seems. Sure, Perform the "does it cure tack free in under 30 seconds test."
-
you seemed to have missed this part.....it must be the thread noise, lol what is it about your uv, that you feel, that makes it superior to all others? what enhanced performance does your resin have to the next, or the Lina? what would be the one selling point (based upon performance alone)that you would use to suggest your resin over all others? 10 sec tack free vs 10 min tack free. you tell me which is better? *your answer will be the cheaper one from everything you have indicated.

"the fact that all uv's work under that same principal is out." This was "out" the day they invented UV resins... " the secret that inexpensive nail uv's will work for fly tying is out" This was a secret? "the fact that it can be found everywhere (Ebay, cosmetic counters, nail salons), is out." You can find anything on ebay... My head is starting to get sore from this wall. I see nothing productive coming from this. No one is saying that any run of the mill resin will not work in the end. Your end goal is to prove your resin is just as good as all the others. Well, if you lower your standards enough, it will be. Maybe I am reading you intent wrong, but you want to be known as the person who blew the lid off the UV resin industry by buying the cheapest resin you can find and then asking people to prove it is not as good? What is your intent? Do you agree if we remove how fast a resin gets tack free from the equation most resins will be equal? "what is it about your uv, that you feel, that makes it superior to all others?" - Not all others, just yours as you describe it. Your resin takes 10 mins to be tack free. Mine takes 10 secs. How is your resin superior to this one. Because it is cheaper?

I triple checked today's mail and there they are. They look great!

Because, based on your own description of the resin, it is inferior to the resin I use. Why would I test something admittedly worse than what I am using? If it takes 5 mins to cure, why would you just not use epoxy? What is your standard for the minimum requirements for UV resin in this test? Your tack free test. How are you determining that the hardness is 99% diamond hard after 5 mins? Is that a fingernail test? and you can tell the extra 1% 15 mins later? You see how this is subjective I hope. I will be the first to admit, that according to how your "test" questions are set up, if we remove everything that makes a resin better and dumb it down to "does it work in the end" that most resins will be equal. Is that something we can agree on?

Winging? I am not familiar with that term. I personally see nothing being gained from this collection of opinions other than getting a collection of opinions. If you are wondering if the cheaper one is as good, I can tell you no. He has stated it takes longer than epoxy to dry hard. How is that better than most any other resin on the market? I am scared that this "test" will be misinterpreted to read exactly what he wants it to say, which is that his cheap resin is at least equal. I would much rather see a reproducible test for the resins than a collection of miscellaneous opinions being interpreted as some how an objective test. We already know what the results he wants are. He is setting the "terms" of the test to favor a lesser resin. "i prefer to look at this as a super-car to performance sedan to compact car challenge. some aren't as flashy or quick, but they all fulfill the basic task of getting from points A to B." But what is learned from the test you do not already know? You just stated they all get you to point b? what are you comparing that matters then? You know which car is faster. You know which one will fit in a smaller parking space. "the most basic of needs from a resin is to set-up quickly to prevent sag, and to cure tack-free. the flashiness, or speed of the high performance resins (tying spec'd)is not what is being questioned with this challenge; but whether the resin can get from point A to B effectively and efficiently." Yes, if you remove the best qualities of the better resins from consideration, everything becomes more even.

I have not received them yet. I just double checked and have 6 sets so far. I will now triple check.

Anyways...back on topic. I had not seen anything on the "blue light" before. That is interesting. So the main difference is that it doesn't thermally cure correct? Just to reiterate I am not saying this is a bad idea. I am also not complaining. During the process of critical thinking, ideas should be reasoned and well thought out/judged.

Nice! That is a thread base for the head and abdomen? -
I would like to see a test of UV resins that is accurate. Why waste time doing an inaccurate test? This is a scientific subject and these questions will be raised again as long as UV resin is around. So, why not do a good test that can't be dismissed to bias? If you are going into this like Mike says as a ,"fun experiment" than make sure people know this is not a serious comparison.

"i don't really think it matters that much who's name is on the bottle, or how much you paid; uv resin is uv resin." This is a fallacy. I could not disagree with this any more. All soda has a different name on the bottle and costs different amount. But soda is soda right. "if you still think that i'm being subjective, please let me know" Having 24 people give their opinions about a handful of different things is super subjective. An objective test could involve 1 person as long as someone else would be able to duplicate the test and come to the same results. If you want a truly objective test you would be better to approach this from the "test them all to see which is better" than the "I want to prove this cheap resin is as good" route.

Kudu, your flies have arrived! They look great!

I knew this would be subjective, but wow. You are comparing apples to oranges to plums to beans. As long as everyone is going into this realizing this is not scientific at all. It seems to me the questions are geared at value vs quality? How exactly do you measure that? If a cheaper product doesn't perform as well but works in the end is it a better deal? What is the baseline for comparison when you have so many different people with different lights, resin, humidity, different ideas of value?I am a skeptic of everything,so do not take anything I say personally please. I just do not see what end result you could be hoping for with this info?

I was born and raised in TC and had no idea the Adams originated from there. Nice bit of history!

I will say that this sounds like it will be very subjective. I will try it though and give honest feedback. I can already tell you that from what you have said about Lina it will not work for me though. I will not wait >1 min for any uv resin to be tack free because I have one right now that takes <8 secs.
-
my apologies, i forgot the word bottles. the bottles are the same. my post has been corrected. Now that we are on the same page there, I must also point out that the bottles are in fact not the same.
-
" i pointed out the the silercreek's resin and the Lina resin are the same, that is all." What? From what you said about the resin you use they are most definitely not the same. Where are you getting this? So you are saying you are buying the exact same thing as Silvercreeks resin?

Maybe I took your intent behind saying( "i think that the O/P has also seen brand loyalty at it's best/worst it this thread. this is worse than a my vise is the best vise loyalty threads, imo. beware Peterson; there is koolaid everywhere in this sport/hobby." ) wrong. Maybe you could clarify the meaning of this.
-
How is this worse? You take offense when someone has a different opinion or points out how your argument is flawed. I think nothing has been said that should be taken personally, until your last post.
-
"If a resin has to cure in ten seconds or less to be labeld 100% tack free?" Not sure where you got that from? It has to be tack free in order to be labeled tack free. I value my time highly. Not sure how this became a speedshop discussion? I am giving my opinion.

the ebay seller is the middle man... I am glad you are able to save a couple dollars.
