Here is a good, easy pattern. Search ant fly tying on youtube and you get alot more patterns if you want a different one.

That sounds good to me.

I would like to get in on this one.

I am too new to critique but I would be very happy to have tied that fly. Looks great!

From what i have found the X/0 is inconsistent from different manufacturers. I think the denier number is the way they are trying to standardize it so is consistent. Someone will correct me if I am wrong

Thanks Silver! That is a great link.

I decided to get it. I do not have anything in particular to tie and this will give me a good choice.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Fly-Tying-Whiting-Farms-Intro-Combo-Set-A-/301444681712?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item462f80cff0 I am thinking this is a good way to start. Any feedback? I do not own any cape's or Hackle yet and this looks like a good place to start. I know I want to stick with Whiting.

I am also new and every time I saw that response I thought " if that is the response I will get on this site, I might as well just skip the time required to ask for criticism and go fishing." I assumed a site for fly tying would focus more on that than the fishing aspect.

The Wheel of Time series will keep you busy for a while. It remains my all time favorite book series.

I just bought the Mayfly vise off ebay and am very happy with it so far. It is the only vise I have owned though so I have nothing to compare it too. It was 80$ and is made in the USA.

Awesome info! Thank you. I have a mask on hand so I will give that a shot.

I am following this video I have tied 3 so far with the fine dubbing. On one of them I mixed in some hares mask, but i need a blender to mix the dubbing better. Is this a video showing a variation of the standard fly? *posted the wrong video at first *and I answered my own question on the variation as it is the "Cove's" Nymph. Sorry for the confusion.

The only dubbing I have on hand is superfine dry fly dubbing. I am tying some pheasant tail nymphs. Will using this dubbing cause them to float? I want to keep tying but am not sure if it is ok to dub them with this type of dubbing..

I fish commercially for crab and we use cotton line for escape holes. If we lose a pot somehow the cotton will rot in 1-2 months to avoid crab getting trapped in there. That is 1-2 months of underwater though. Out of the water the cotton lasts a lot longer.
