  1. In PA,I see the trout stocking program as primarily a money maker for the fish commission. A good portion buy their license right before opening day and maybe fish a handful of times the rest of the year. If it wasn't for those fish in a barrel opportunities, they likely wouldn't buy a license at all. Where I am, they stock most places only in the spring. A select few waters (places with easy, though not often safe for long periods of time, ice fishing access. And some "artificial lure only" streams.) are stocked in the fall as well. Though I doubt it is intentional, a big plus of the trout stocking is that it takes away allot of the pressure on the local native non-stocked fish. Small mouth, walleye, and Pike go largely undisturbed for a couple months once the buckets are dumped.
  2. Those look great. Definitely tying up some of those.
  3. Care to get a little more specific about their hackle? Sizes, length, stiffness, quality? I haven't heard of them and it's hard for me to judge from a photo on eBay.
  4. What sizes do you think they'll tie down to? (Replying to both of you.) I'm trying to figure out what I want for soft hackles. Id like to tie at least some down to 18. Going back and forth between hen cape, Partridge skin, and starling skin.
  5. Fixed. Hard for me to say without knowing the design of the base they're making.
  6. Not sure if this would suit your application or not. https://m.grainger.com/mobile/product/36WY02?cm_mmc=PPC:+Google+PLA&s_kwcid=AL!2966!3!50916684477!!!g!66418500319!&ef_id=WWivZAAAAGr52CDL:20171114141922:s&kwid=productads-adid^50916684477-device^m-plaid^66418500319-sku^36WY02-adType^PLA
  7. I almost always just whip by hand. I honestly don't even know how to half hitch a fly. The number of turns, whips and wether or not I use cement depends on the size of the fly. Small quick flies and carp flies go without cement. Most streamers, and more involved flies get shhan after a couple 4 turn whips.

  10. I've looked in the past and not been able to find anything myself. Two options would be to make one (bondo works). Or use split shot and open them up flat. They make molds for split shot.
  11. I don't have a ton of hooks. But I do like to keep them in their bags. I have a rectangular bin with 3 compartments. 1 for 4+ one for 6-10 and one for 12 and under. There's probably a dozen or so bags in each compartment. I don't waste an excessive amount of time looking for what I need.
  12. The Sawyers killer bug is also tied with wire instead of thread. But there is another material.
  13. "Pelican, heron, parrots and swan herls and biots are very rare and almost impossible to find and if you find them are not cheap at all."-from your article. I'd go with goose or turkey biots.
  14. Maybe either vernille or foam discs threaded onto a line like the trouser worm carp fly.
  15. Any other info on this? I saw the material list on your site. Curious if you've see an sbs anywhere. I'm coming up blank on a Google search.

  17. I grabbed one of these from amazon. I like it so far. Piscifun Sword Weight Forward Floating Fly Fishing Line with Welded Loop WF3wt 90FT Moss Green https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01D9J0DR8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_ycJezb70Q46KT
  18. Only large koi I've seen caught was taken on floating bread. Same thing that catches most of the common carp in this particular pond.
  19. this has been good for me in shallow parts of lakes.
  20. But what was the pattern? Or were they actual bugs?
  21. Thanks for that. It will give me another place to start. I have also been told there are hybrid strip bass there also. Kevin Wipers are only going to be found within 2 locks upstream of the city, if I'm not mistaken. And I also remember hearing they may have ended the stocking program for them. Not sure how recently, though.
  22. I've never caught one on a fly, but have caught 3 on creek chubs walleye fishing and 1 on a white belly, silver backed crank bait(also not targeting them). Allegheny river, and below a dam on a trib to it. That's all I got.
  23. Love that. I could see a few of those hanging on a peg board behind my bench (if I had a permanent space)
