  1. Deerhairdan, Nice Mouse sir! I use to tie some like that on a brooch pin and the women would buy them up. $35 got tired of tying them and that was in the late 90's. Do you fish that or just for show?
  2. That was me I believe...I sent you a PM sating I forgot to toe tag them...forked tail right?
  3. Yeah I can do some close ups this weekend..those poppers are 3 hrs from me right now but I'm headed home this weekend to tie some more. Not sure what you are talking about shiny/chrome but some have textured tinfoil and some have a micro glitter coating and some have pearl mixed with glitter on them. That's probably what you are seeing.
  4. All kinds..Mmmm... Most of them are Allen B200 Bass Bug (I really like these not just for the money but like the wire gauge for the size.) some are old Tiemco 8089 Stinger hooks and some are Gamakatsu B10S.. I really like the Gamakatsu also but the wire guage is really heavy for the size and for foam poppers in my opinion. I like them for big deer hair work and big bass streamers. Edit: also have some Waspi Lighting Strike I think they are called. Really had a hard to time finding the right sized hook for the "Perfect Popper" Pencil Popper..the hook they want to hook you up with is a Salt Water Stainless hook and the wire gauge is just too big and heavy and the shank is not long enough. End of the popper body should end before the point of the hook in my opinion and these don't. Some of these were tied on the wrong hooks as far as I'm concerned and I'll be giving those away.
  5. Yep we use to be a great nation...we actually made stuff, we don't any more. We are a nation of consumers and that's what the "Man" wants. If we quit buying stuff the world would implode. Just the way it is.
  6. Thx for the props guys. I'm going to pick up some more proper bodies this weekend now that I have learned how to lay down a really fine line with the airbrush and do another couple dozen. Then start finishing the ones I already have done. I have a mix of stuff in the pictures, hard foam, soft foam, balsa wood and cork. I have way more than I need but it's so much fun I can't stop. I think I might do a trivia contest here and give some of the ones away that I don't like.
  7. I'm not rich or stupid with my money but I can usually buy what I want or think I need. Don't want to spend that $169 on the RIO Versitip if that's what you are asking.
  8. Mono Shooting lines,Braided Mono,Amnesia, Ect. Used instead of a floating, sinking or intermediate running line...just hook a sinking tip or sinking shooting head to it.
  9. Sorry about the Popper comment(going to edit that) I got the top covered. Just need some rods setup to go deep when going after suspend bass or stripers I'll usually carry 3-4 rods setup when boat fishing lakes which is what I'm talking about here.
  10. 1st off I'm not a Rookie...been fly fishing near 50 years but I've been out of it for 10-15 years as far as technology goes. The amount of line choices now days is just mind boggling. Here's what I have and what I want to do: Rods: Sage GFL 9' 6" 8 wt Sage GFL 9' 9 wt Scott Heliply 8' 8" 10 wt I need a versatile setup for all three rods fishing for suspended LM Bass,Inland Lake Striper and Hybrid Bass. and a little light Salt water fishing. Throwing Big Streamers and Bottom bouncing flies. Don't have enough money to setup every rod right. Looking to overload the 8wt get the 9wt right and underload the 10wt. Need to fish 10'-20' deep. Maybe even deeper and cast as far as I can to cover blind water. Don't know what to do..shooting head system? 24' sink tip Lines? Teeny? Straight Mono Running line and Sink Tips? Edit: I'm worried about a straight line connection and being able to detect a strike when fishing this deep, this is why I lean towards mono and a sink tip. T.I.A.
  11. I might have to go buy a Fugly packer for this..I use a Brassie & Empty Pens and the flys I posted were tied about 15 years ago and I was near the top of my game then...(been out of it for at least 10 years) I've tied better than I posted but not consistently. The density Crackleback,Cohen,TheCream and others get I've only achieved a few times and I think they all use the Fugly. Guess I'm going to have to break down and buy one and give it a shot and see if it's all that and a bag of chips. Damn an other Gadget on my Desk! Nobody should feel intimidated by the flys posted...(that's an other reason I felt there might be a low interest) if you can tie a decent deer hair bug jump in the water is fine...heck you might learn something...I'm always willing to help and share tricks.
  12. I can't imagine doing it while moving...maybe some simple stuff like Woolybuggers or something. Look up DYI laptop desks for vehicles..I've made a few out of PVC and or Threaded pipe for my job it would work perfect for making a fly tying / Desk Station in a car.
  13. Thx They are "living eyes" color Ice If I remember correctly. I shave the head flat on the sides with a razor blade then burn a hole for the eyes and glue with either Epoxy or Goop Make sense?
  14. I bought I think it's a 5lb tank with an adjustable low pressure valve. I've been told this tank will last me years just painting poppers. Cost me $13 to fill it up at the local brewery. Thx everyone.
  15. Maybe you could stack some flip flops...sorry couldn't help myself.
  16. This is how it would work in my head... Tier #1 sends me 6 flies and everyone is different. I put six names in a hat pick a fly and then pull a name for that fly until they are all issued out. If tier #2 sends in six all the same then everyone gets the same fly from that guy. It's all about fun and getting to own some different hair work other than your own stuff.
  17. I've been kicking around the idea of hosting a swap like this but not sure of the interest because of the time and labor involved in tying stacked deer hair bass bugs. There is a lot of talent on this board. A few ideas I had: 1. Normal 12 Tiers and 12 flies each 2. 6 Tiers 6 flies each 3. 6 Tiers and 12 flies each...everyone gets two back. Rules would be...no rules. Other than it has to have a weed guard. Just a stacked deer hair bass bug in any pattern or color you want, in other words all 12 flies could be different in size, color, pattern ect. If it goes that way I would just put all the names in a hat pick a fly and then pick a name. If we can get at least 6 guys to commit to a least 6 ea. I'll do it. Let me know your thoughts. T.I.A. Stuff like this: Don't be shy...you don't have to the skill level of TheCream or Pat Cohen or other top end tiers on this board but try to make a solid effort to do your best.
  18. I'm sorry it's Golden http://www.goldenpaints.com/products/colors/high-flow Going to edit my post now
  19. Yes C02 Started using the Wallyworld,Hobby Lobby cheap acrylics($1.50 a bottle) and they suck in this brush. They either clog up the brush or if you thin them enough to flow through the brush they splatter or run cause it's so thin. I lot them were painted with those. The Golden Paints and Inks are like night and day. Next run will be a lot better. I'll probably donate a lot of these as extras in Fly Swaps here.
  20. Recently bought an airbrush setup at the encouragement of Kimo and I got a little carried away...and this ain't all of them. Love this thing, I'm still getting the hang of it and a feel for the airbrush. Some of these are hand painted. Right when I started getting a good feel for the brush and good paints(Golden high flow acrylic and Acrylic Inks) I ran out of bodies. I'm going to do a few more now that I'm getting the results I'm happy with even though I have enough to last me years now. Time to finish them now. Thx for looking.
