I will be in the Sevierville area of Tennessee around the end of May this year for a weeks vacation and if anyone has any advice on wadeable waters, flies, guides or any other resources I would greatly appriecieate any help.

Having just started myself I would say that it depends on what you plan to tie and fish. I purchased a trout kit from bass pro that had a vise, tools, material and instructional dvd, . All for $50, with that said I realized the vise is not that great and I needed/wanted more tools. It was a great introduction and eye opener. If you are not sure if tying is your thing this might be a good route. You can also go online and get decent tool kits and a better quality vise separate then buy materials suited to your taste and needs.

Flytire, this is great, I am pretty good with Excel so this is right up my alley, I like the way you created the workbook for the types of flies and the material inventory. Great tool.

Thanks for the for the information, this was very helpful and probably saved me a lot of time. This is what makes this forum so helpful. Solid information from people who are experienced and not selling me something.

I am new to the fly fishing and have been trying to research leaders and materials. I was recently on the Spring River in Arkansas where, I was told you can get by with a larger leader material such as 8-10 lb test mono. Sounds simple. After I returned home I was looking at some of my gear and found a spool of 8 lb Spider Wire. I have seen some people reference braided leaders and was wondering if anyone had used this and what the pros and cons of it would be.

Mainly just trying to catalog what I have tied so I can remember what I used. I have mainly been using youtube as my source. Went to the Spring River in Arkansas an had a good time, not a large quantity of fish but all were caught on flies I tied!! Very rewarding. Thanks for the information. I have added the fly tying app to my tablet and will be exploring it shorty.

I have recently taken up the art of tying my own flies and was wondering if there was an updated pattern software program that I could use to enter patterns that I have put together. Most of the software programs I have seen do not appear to be up to date with windows 7 or 8. Even an excel spreadsheet would be nice.
