  1. Hello all. My name is Joe, and I come to you from the gorgeous mountains in western Virginia. Anyways, thank you to everyone for creating such a great forum where newbies like myself can go to gather information on the wonderful world of fly tying. I have always been an avid fisherman (mostly bass, trout, and just about any freshwater species), but have never tried my hand at tying my own "lures", even though it was always been something I wanted to try. Well; last weekend was my birthday, and my wife surprised me with a beginner's fly tying kit from Bass Pro Shops.... after watching the enclosed DVD as well as a few online searches, I decided to try my hand at a Clouser Minnow in Lefty Kreh's "Baby Bass" pattern. I think it came out very well, considering it was the first thing I have ever tied ( I know that I did place the eyes a little too far back on the hook, causing an extended "nose" to the fly). The second fly I did was a Wooly Bugger in chartreuse and red. Think it came out much better..... now; after tying these 2; I look forward to working on many others to "perfect" my craft (yes; I did put the quotations around perfect; because do any of us truly perfect any kind of craft?) I did include pictures of these 2 that I have already completed. Please take a look and feel free to make any suggestions that may be able to further assist me as I venture into this hobby.
