  1. It can go as far as 4/0 but after that it wants larger hooks. Size 6 is my most common hook size which it can hold. Desk size is common in the United States at 1.5 inch thickness. This vise is 1/16 inch too narrow to accept it. Small mod to the c clamp and it is useable. The jaws are steel yet uneven in grind as well as rough meaning it was a mass product without quality. Once again a mod that I can achieve. In short it will fill the ticket for a budget but my xacto k ice vise seemed superior and the easy out vise was far superior. It suffices the need but don't think it will make you better because it was made for flies in mind.
  2. Game hunter donated to me. Has 2 grouse and a mallard that he says he will donate later
  3. Strange it says forbidden. Repost pic for above then off to my shop.
  4. Turns out that wasn't a scrap fly. Gave it a run in local pond and pulled out a bass on 3rd try. Even straightened out after use.
  5. Butchered the hackle a bit but bass will still hit it. Now I know what to expect and how to keep hackle fixed when wrapping the wire.
  6. This is about 1/2 the thickness of Christmas tinsel so it can work well on smaller hooks but also has the Christmas tinsel thickness mixed in. Have to look to adapt when the sports stores don't carry what you want. Gonna try a silver invicta later so that was why I looked for the tinsel.
  7. The sports shops around me carries little for fly tying. Improvision works. 64 cents at Target as Easter is over lol.
  8. A simple fly that takes about 2 minutes but does well for me.
  9. Homemade vise. Works well. Hate to waste money by purchasing a dust collector. In the future I do plan on actual vise but in the interim this works well.
  10. Delrab new jersey. Within walking distance to the creek on rt 130 or the lakes right after. Strikers bass panfish galore there or the stocked lakes for trout.
  11. I have 2 birds worth. Wings I bag left separately from right and tail then clip all bags together. I don't pluck them as there will be some meat left on it so I clip all feathers as close to skin as I can. Even the Tom turkey beard gets bagged. I don't wash them but do freeze them about a week or so and air them when they come out and thaw. A small resistant bag into bag then long term store in cool dry spot.
  12. Been an avid Fisher for at least 40 years. Never done flies so it was a natural step in a time of life where I enjoy the relaxation of both hobbies. At the moment I am tying on a homemade vise and all tools are homemade as well but works to my satisfaction. I have collected deer squirrel turkey geese pheasants and quail so far without any shortage of supplies. Ducks will be available shortly as well given the fact the geese has migrated back here. The lures I have made follow no specific patterns but has out produced the store purchases from past.
