  1. Had a few minutes to check out the NHL game on TV Sunday when out of the corner of my eye something walked by my front door. After a little following, videos, and pictures he continued hunting rabbits... Couple of pics:
  2. So here is something I haven't seen on here... Did you just get rolled?!?!?
  3. Once I made the switch I can't imagine going back. They are lighter, better grip (could be opinion), easier to clean, and never fall apart. Too many dang days I walked back to the car with the sound of...flip, flop, flip, flop...of my felt sole coming off. I also remember a time chasing a felt sole down the river, lol. Sorry to hijack the thread.
  4. Better question is....Why are you still wearing felt soles?!?!?
  5. If they can hold a rod, they can fish. I've had kids 5-7 out and they did just fine. Some of them learn to set the hook on their own even! Yes, I would start them off with a spin rod, that's my opinion
  6. Mike, spot on about the music. Too much rap music is repetitive and this fits that. I like this guy's work with other producers who are much more musically intricate. I think my favorite thing about his lyrics are all of the various references to seemingly random things and double (or multiple) entendres; Phineas Gage, Acheron, David McDonald, etc. Most of the people and things are obscure now, but weren't at one time. I think he plays on that theme a lot also. I see the stories, but it's really only my interpretation of the words Speaking of lyrics, some of you might remember when Johnny Cash did this song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kPz21cDK7dg That link is to the original, and if I remember correctly it was written after Trent's dog passed. That's some stuff right there.
  7. That fly looks like a great wax worm imitation I like it! Will add it to my list to tie for fly and lure only lakes this season.
  8. This is really nice. Bet with sinking line the action would be irresistible. I love the abdomen, soooo cool looking!
  9. I don't find much in new music regardless of genre, there's just no art, where are the Picassos of today? Lyrics are in the first comment: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YKuuSsrRCBk Simply amazing new music.
  10. McNett Aquaseal would be what I would try. Used it on my raft and it is awesome, don't see why it would not work on an air matress. https://outdoor.mcnett.eu/outdoor/aquasure-urethane-repair-adhesive-sealant/ I don't know what "FD" means, but this one is inexpensive: https://www.gearaid.com/products/aquaseal-repair-adhesive?variant=28044138321 I suppose you could try some UV resins, they are flexible and should seal, but I think something like aqua seal will work a lot better, last longer, and is super easy to apply.
  11. yooper, make your own. I did here: http://www.flytyingforum.com/index.php?showtopic=87201&hl=

    Why?

Looks like a great day to go fishing to me. Bad weather limits the number of other people on the river, fish aren't as spooky, bug selection is limited. My kind of day!!!

Poopdeck, makes sense. Not saying I will never spray just that I'll try every other method first Charlie, I am familiar with DE and it's effect on bugs with exoskeletons but hadn't thought to use it on these. Thanks for the advice! Dominecker, I am still trying to figure out where they live. There is no mulch around my place. The owner before me used landscaping rocks. I was not able to take a good look at all of the trees to be sure I do not have a box elder, as soon as the leaves come out I will be looking.

Poopdeck, that was a good read. Made me lol but at least I know what I'm up against. Looks like I will need to figure out where they are living (it appears everywhere and not in one particular tree). Some, though not many thankfully have made their way inside also. dadofmolly, thanks for the advice, that's something I can use on the big clumps I find outside. Winter is not killing them, only put them to sleep hahah. They are annoying as hell, that's for sure.

Thank you for the info poopdeck. I might end up going down that route eventually. For now, I will try to figure out where they live and go from there. Also, there is an arborist living next door who I will hit up with this information I do not spray anything (not that I care if anyone else does), am working on organic farming practices at my place.
  16. Hmm, jcozzz got me thinking. I remember I have at least one left from years ago. The collar is definitely feathers. It also appears to be a very tapered feather, as whatfly says. Think the hackles I have might work for a few, just have to be more selective which feathers I use. Thanks everyone!! Pics of the one I have attached

Very cool, thank you for the help identifying!! I don't know if fish will eat them and am not looking to imitate them haha, but they are freaking everywhere around my place and I couldn't figure out what they were. They do not stink when squished, do look like lightening bugs (though we don't have those in my area of Colorado), and are annoying indeed. I also do not know of any box elder trees in my area. Has me wondering where they came from. Wood siding on my house maybe? About the smell, I did find this online, though have not experience it when I crush them myself: "When crushed or handled roughly, boxelder bugs can also produce a strong, disagreeable odor."

    Any idea what this is?
  19. flytire, likely my mistake buying cheap thinking it would be big and floppy cause who wants that! What I have will work awesome for standard buggers, not so much for this which is more of a soft hackle bugger in my opinion. steve, you could be correct, on the website that has the image below which is very similar, it lists "Indian Saddle" in the recipe section. Sadly, I Googled for "Indian Saddle" thinking it was a brand or style, then it hit me
  20. You guys are fast and rock as usual. Thank you. SilverCreek, always appreciate your information and expertise! Charlie, I should have thought to check AK fly fishing goods. Yes, I have a big, likely goofy looking, brimmed hat I always wear fishing. Will post the abominations I tie once the materials arrive!
  21. I am trying to figure out the hackle/collar material used for this fly: I tried strung rooster saddle but it is too short and way too stiff. Any ideas? Also, trying to tie dolly llamas and cannot find coneheads big enough. Am I limited to x-eyes? Recipes call for 3/8 cone but I only find 1/4. The large tungstens do not look right on a 1/0 or 1 hook. Am I incorrect on the sizing? Thank you for ideas and help!
  22. I have never caught a fish using a hares ear nymph. Have tried numerous times, have people fishing with and around me catching fish using them, but I can not. I don't bother tying them any more and they are only in my box to give to other people.
  23. I've had a FishPond Shooting Star backpack/chestpack combo for >10 years and it is still going, although in the next few I should buy a new one while I can still find them. It appears that you can FishPond is no longer offering a large sized backpack combined with a larger sized chest pack. You get a large backpack connected to a vest, or a small backpack with a small chest pack...but not a larger backpack and larger chest pack together. I want the larger backpack for hiking and the larger chest pack because I can't carry only 2 boxes haha. On the positive side, I'm sold on the quality of the FishPond stuff, I beat the crap out of this bag, over stuff it, have been drenched in rain (it has a rain fly), toss it around, and it still keeps going. Finally some of the bungees are dry rotting. Anyway, hard to imagine having anything else. It's super versatile, works for longer distance hiking/fishing days, road fishing, and everything in between.
  24. For the original poster, you could find either long tubes (or squares as in the original link) at hobby lobby or one of those stores and glue them together. Should be very inexpensive and take all of 5 minutes. That said, I do not like any of these options. There has to be a better way. The Wapsi ones are numbered so you can keep track of what material is in which bin but you need a paper, book, or digital note that is up to date and easily accessible when needed to match up the number to the material. With these other options, the dubbing names and colors are not easily matched with what's in the bin. This is a huge problem because I never remember which color is which, which dubbing is made of what material, which are for dries and which for nymphs, etc. I have tried several options but nothing works. Instead I leave them in packages, put them into a drawer, and rifle through looking for what I need as needed. Not ideal for me, let alone for someone with 100s of dubbing packages. If you have enough room, then it seems like pegboard and hooks, or something similar, would work well. If you have wood lying around and enough room to have them sitting somewhere, then what I did for my hooks might work (and be cheap and easy): I'm still on the hunt for an ideal dubbing holder/dispenser that doesn't require me to have a separate lookup table or mechanism.
  25. Realize this is all opinion which is what makes art...art. However, I do not think you are understanding what I am saying. I am not comparing Sadistik lyrics to Pink Floyd (or NIN) lyrics, I was comparing the musical engineering. From a lyrical standpoint, either you get it or you don't. Words cannot explain these things and I'm not here to alter opinions. To be fair, your comparison is not even close. Heck, Queensryche wasn't the best band (or lyricist), or even touching the top 10, of their time or genre. Don't be fooled, I am a fan of silent lucidity, can play the riff on guitar, know all the words, etc. but let's be real here, throwing that out there is like comparing Ford to Ferrari! Within his genre, and even outside, Sadistik lyrics are simply on a different level. It's hard to compare with anything else (especially in his genre) other than poets. I love how art can take so many forms, whether it's a country singer talking about his dog dying and wife leaving (soon your "smart" truck will drive away leaving you!), or a rocker tapping out a Van Halen-esque Eruption solo, emo songs about emptiness, all the way to drinking 40s of old english and pouring a lil out for my homies...it's all good Here's a little something different, I wish I had fly line control like this guy has body control! First time I watched, was convinced there were camera tricks happening but you can see cars reflected in the window going by at full speed.
