  1. Thanks man! Right back at ya! That Lady Caroline is well done!
  2. Harrop's Last Chance Cripples in.... you guessed it Hendrickson! Both soft hackled and neck hackled versions I have always liked the way this pattern fishes when tied with a soft hackle as opposed to stiff neck or saddle hackle. it seems to sit in the film better and have more movement. I have tied them with partridge, hen hackle and speckled CDC in the past. All work beautifully and in my opinion, are more effectively than their stiff hackled counterparts. Materials Used Hook: TMC 101 (here size 14) Thread: Semperfli 18/0 Nanosilk in Copper Tail: Lemon Wood Duck Shuck: TroutHunter CNE Dubbing in Olive Brown Abdomen: Rusty Canada goose biot Ribbing: Danville Fine Gold Thorax: TroutHunter Professional Dry Fly Dubbing in Pink Albert Wing: Natural Brown CDC Hackle: Hungarian Partridge for the soft hackle and Speckled Golden Badger for the standard version Best, Nathan
  3. Kelly’s Swinger Stackers are very beautifully engineered tools. Hair stackers should be selected based on the diameter of the clump and the length of hair being stacked. if you’re in to small hair wing flies the small Swinger Stacker is a thing of beauty because you won’t have any hairs fall horizontally inside the stacker. Additionally the XL Swinger is a great tool for big collars on streamer patterns. These stackers took some getting used to for me. I used the brass Edgin stackers for around 20 years before getting the full range of Swinger Stackers. In the end they all accomplish the same thing. The more important matter, to me anyway, is having a range of sizes based on the flies you are going to be tying. I would imagine the Loon offering would be similar in use, but I have not tried them. Best, Nathan
  4. @Sandan Well put, I agree completely. Fun to get ready for a trip like that!
  5. Gotta love the Harrop patterns! Nice job! I have really enjoyed reading his books. In addition to being a very innovative fly tier he is also a gifted writer.
  6. Thanks Mike! I love Hendricksons! Bit of a hit/miss hatch but it’s the first opportunity for a great hatch in my neck of the woods. And I agree with you, lots of great stuff getting posted!

  9. Comparadun with CDC legs Thought the idea floating through this thread of adding legs to a Comparadun sounded interesting. Here is my take on the idea. No doubt it will catch fish. I might like the CDC a bit shorter though... 10. Thanks! Yes, Rene has some incredibly beautiful and effective patterns! I also tied one cutting the tip off of the CDC puffs, but it just ended up looking like an RS2. I actually kind of like how leaving the tips makes them look like unfurling wings.
  11. CDC Short Wing Emergers I really like fishing Rene Harrop's short wing emerger at the beginning of a hatch. It is a very effective fly and catches a boat load of fish. Decided to try experimenting with CDC in place of duck quill. 14. I agree with each of your observations Scott. Additionally, I think it really just looks cool!
  15. Hendrickson Biot Comparadun A wonderfully simple and effective pattern just jazzed up a bit with use of a biot abdomen. I am a sucker for a biot body! I first saw this style of comparadun wing tied by Charlie Craven. If you look at the wing from behind (in the second photo) you can see the butts of the deer hair wing. The wing is trimmed to length prior to tying it on to the hook and the butts are left to make a handsome little sunburst shape behind the wing. No need to trim the butts after tying the wing in if done correctly. 16. Hendrickson Biot Parachute Another Hendrickson! Can you tell I am getting sick of tying and fishing nymphs this winter! 17. Haha! I still have his tying videos myself! Rene’s patterns are very well thought out in my opinion, and they are REALLY effective!
  18. Hi Tom, Thanks! During last spring’s sheltering in place order my dental office was closed and I was able experience the magic of the Hendrickson hatch for about a month on the Farmington river. Like clock work, if the temperature hit 50° they would start hatching around 2:30 pm and the fish just went berserk and gorged themselves on Hendricksons. Prior to last spring I hadn’t had much success hitting the Hendrickson hatch with a few good days here and there, because I was always busy in the office at the critical time. Guessing I won’t have another spring like the last one until retirement! -Nathan

  20. Hey @DarrellP, This one is a size 14 but it can be tied in any size and color you like to imitate any mayfly species. Wish I had a Hex hatch here in CT!
  21. Galloup's Found Link Hendrickson A favorite mayfly imitation. Kelly designed this one after Mike Mercer's Missing link spent caddis pattern. 23. Thanks @DFoster! Good eye! Yes, it is a TRV. I’m kind of a vise junkie 😬!
  24. Thanks Scott! I’ve really enjoyed tying and fishing these patterns. They float very well but also give a very convincing profile. Those Michiganders nailed this style fly!
  25. Hendrickson Hairwing Dun Designed for heavier riffles. This fly has a deer hair body and wing which keeps it floating and highly visible.
