Upgraded reloading area
Steeldrifter replied to Steeldrifter's topic in Hunting and firearms & Archery discussion
Finished getting it all set up and knocked out the first rds with it last night. Did 100rds of 9mm in probably 20 mins and wasn't even trying to go fast, was taking my time and just getting use to the rhythm of it. On my old RCBS single stage it would take me about 60-70mins to crank out 100rds and that was haulin' ass. I think I am gonna really love this thing. I went ahead and ordered a 2nd powder measure from Dillon last night as well as a couple more primer pick up tubes. Figure it will be nice to have two complete heads set up not just with dies but also the powder measure as well so I can just swap heads and primer bar and go from 9 to 556 real quickly. -
Upgraded reloading area

Great to hear you say that Greg because I already ordered some of that! 😎 Sounds like you have a Dillon yourself. So question for you... I just today got the Conversion kits for 9mm, 223, 300blk, I also ordered a tool head off ebay so I have a head for pistol (9mm) ready to go. And one for rifle (223/300blk) so I can swap them quickly. Question though since you are familiar with the Dillon..The powder measure is about $120'ish. How hard/time consuming is it to swap the power funnel/switch from pistol to rifle for the powder measure? Think it's worth buying another powder measure to have set up on the rifle head ready to drop in? -
Well after two years of reloading on a single press, I finally upgraded. Past week I have been working on the reloading area. Got a Dillon 550c, a Frankford Arsenal case prep center, bought a Lee single stage press & universal decapping die to have a dedicated decapping press, and moved my RCBS press to a new 8ft 2" thick counter so I can use the RCBS as a small batch press for stuff like my revolvers where I'm only doing 100-200 rds at a time. I also have been 3D printing a lot of stuff for the Dillon. And I DYI'ed a round counter. Bought a digital display, 3d printed a housing for it. Wire it up to a micro switch that is tripped by a micro switch on the fwd (primed) stroke of the handle. So it counts every completed round I do. Not done yet but close. This is gonna be heaven at about 400/500rds per hr compared to the 100 rd per hr I'm use to on my single stage.

9' 5wt "Bjorn" all finished up and ready for battle.

Best reel I ever owned in my life was a Galvan. It was the T8. Smoothest real I have ever used. I really wish I never sold that reel years 😔

We got a whole whopping 3/4" of snow here last night lol. At least I don't have to go out and blow it/shovel. I usually do mine as well as two of my elderly neighbors so as I get older myself the less I have to do snow the better I say!

Back in the day when I was big into hot rods and lifted trucks guys used hydraulics to achieve that sort of stance. You could do the traditional "raked" look with back end raised and front lowered, or however you wanted the stance to look. Then as time went on they went from hydraulics to easier to install air suspension. The problem with the squatted look is that a lot of those guys simply buy a cheap 4" lift kit for the front, then a cheap shackle drop lowering kit for the rear and then it is not adjustable at all and creates the issues I mentioned about no suspension travel and huge blind spots out front of the truck. I've got a friend on the sheriff dept in Virginia and he said recently that they just passed a new law in Nov of 23 against that down there. It's $100-$300 fine now. I'm in no way against guys doing what makes them happy if they do it the right way with correct parts and pay for it out of their own pocket with their own money, doesn't matter if I like it or not, its their truck and to each his own, more power to them I say. And there are guys that do it the right way with air suspensions, I see them on Woodward at the Dream Cruise every year. But you'd be surprised how many guys do it the wrong way and actually make the truck a danger on the road. It was the same back in the 80's/90's with some of the lifted trucks I use to see in clubs I was in around here. Guys would show up with lift blocks on the front axle and stock steering arms/pitman arms and the steering angles were all out of wack 😲

I want to see him go over a speed bump. Those rear quarter panels would sure be re-radiused in a hurry 😆

And imo pretty dangerous as well. You have zero travel in the rear suspension, and with the nose pointed up like that you prob have at least a 15-20ft blind spot out in front of you. I've always been into cars/trucks especially in my younger days, and always saw a purpose in trends. But that stance is one trend that I have just never seen any purpose in. Thankfully I hardly ever see that around these parts.

Oh God not the " Carolina squat" 🤢😄

You mean you haven't tried starting your snowblower yet this year either Bob? 😆
-
Still haven't had any snow yet here in Michigan so far this winter. I really need to get out and start my snowblower for the first time this year soon just to make sure it's gonna start easily because I'm sure we are on borrowed time here till the snow flies.

😂 Actually I use to built real ones as well back in the day. Had a few different Blazers that had 38.5"-44" tires and 6"-12" of lift on them that I had to climb up into. I use to take this one to local car shows as well as go out muddin' on the weekends with friends back in the 90's.

Looks like a fun time had by all as usual Mark.

45 and very foggy. Feel like I'm in a Dickens novel in jolly ol' London here today 😄 Supposed to start dropping down into the 20's & 30's starting first week of Jan here.

I'm so sorry for your loss Bob. Always hard losing a loved one no matter their age.

Mike if it was never a tradition for you when you were younger to watch them with family, then I get why they might not appeal to you now. Christmas movies for me bring back memories I guess more than anything. Growing up my family always had traditions and great times at Christmas watching movies and enjoying family time. Certain movies we watched every single year as a family. Now that I don't have much family left and have lost many close family members that I used to spend such time with at Christmas, I enjoy watching movies because it brings back memories and feelings I use to have years ago. Some Christmas movies are somewhat corny and a bit goofy, but it's the memories and feelings of the past which I find enjoyment in. Now, lets open the big can of worms...Die Hard...Christmas movie or no? 😄 -
I saw that the other day on one of the gun channels I watch on youtube and was shocked. That was nuts. He sustained 3rd degree burns and some broken bones, but I honestly am surprised he even survived that. That was bad.

A couple months back I made myself an RPG for display in the gun room. Was actually looking at real decommissioned ones at the time but when I found out even a decommissioned one cost around $1400 I said NOPE and I ended up 3D printing one. A good friend of mine that comes over often saw it and really liked it. So I decided to make him one for Christmas since I had a few days of free time. This is 3AD printed in 12 different sections then epoxied together and airbrush. I also did some weathering to it to make it look like it has been used/battleworn.

He's 29yrs old. He's been into Aviation/ww2 stuff since he was a little kid though. He does a lot of model himself but he doesn't do any sort of diorama type stuff so this should be something a bit different for him.
