  1. Since the denier number for one thread isn't always the same denier number for another thread that system seem to be quite useless as well I'm staying with Danville and veevus threads no matter what system they use.
  2. No electroplating is applying a layer of METAL to a part like a chrome bumper which can be peeled when the base metal gets rusted where as anodizing is a film that cannot be peeled off. Try peeling off the anodizing on a fly reel
  3. Whatever works for YOU stay with it THe article will hopefully help those tyers that are unaware of all of the tying threads out there and who may want to expand their knowledge of thread
  4. After tying in the feather with a couple of thread wraps and the tail is too long now is the time to pull the butt end of the feather to shorten the tail
  5. the search function found this http://www.flytyingforum.com/index.php?showtopic=77715
  6. bookmark it for future reference http://globalflyfisher.com/tiebetter/tying-thread/
  7. Anodizing Anodizing is an electrochemical conversion process that forms an oxide film, usually on aluminum, in an electrolyte (chemical solution). The aluminum parts are the anode (thus the term “anodizing”) and current is passed between them and a cathode, usually flat aluminum bars, through the above mentioned electrolyte (sulfuric acid is most commonly used). There are different types of anodize, most commonly referred to as Type I-Chromic Acid Anodize, Type II-Sulfuric Acid Anodize, and Type III Hard Anodize or Hardcoat from the Mil-A-8625 designation. Other less common types are phosphoric acid and titanium anodize. Electroplating Electroplating is the process of applying one or more layers of a metal to a part by passing a positively charged electrical current through a solution containing dissolved metal ions (anode) and a negatively charged electrical current through your part to be plated (cathode). The history dates back to the ancient Egyptians who would coat metals and non-metals with gold or a process known as “gilding”, the first known surface finish. Some metals apply more evenly than others, but the use of electricity means that the metal being deposited flows more easily to high current areas or the edges of a part. This tendency is especially pronounced on complex shapes or when trying to plate the inside or ID portion of a part. In addition to just single metals being applied, it is possible to simultaneously plate alloys of materials such as Tin and Lead or Zinc and Iron to achieve desired customized properties.
  8. my personal preference for marabou for wooly bugger tails looks like this then i snip out the tip if the plume then ill draw all of the fibers together and tie them in and use the remainder of the feather for under body filler when using lead wraps i trim the marabou even with the end of the lead one thing to remember is not all feathers that come stitched together in a bag of marabou are going to be the perfect feather to tie wooly buggers. you do have to sort through the feathers to get the right ones for you working with cut fibers off of the stem is a pain in the a$$ as it gets to flying all over the place.
  9. Poor quality materials are destined to discourage beginner tiers and cause greater expense when the time comes to replace them. Buy the best you can
  10. need snail mail address please
  11. pick a different dumbbell that offers more protection to the eye itself
  12. not really. eventually any coating that is applied will also chip off
  13. Oh at times I wish I had kids but I'm very comfortable without them and no smelly pets either
  14. My father was there but he would rather drink his Rheingold beer than teach his kids fishing. We even spent summers at the family cottage on a small lake in Massachusetts. I eventually learned from my uncle Camille who would come down from Vermont. Bullheads and panfish using pieces of hot dogs and corn kernels. Being a kid that was fun. Fast forward to the 80s and living in Colorado. My ex father in law got me started fishing again using a fly and bubble. That was fun also. I was working at a major defense contractor and their recreation department offered fly tying and fly fishing classes. So I enrolled and the rest is fly fishing/tying history. I have no kids to pass down any type of fishing experience.
