  1. This is the Orange Seaducer!!!!!!!!! Looks a little battered 'cause I caught 9 baby tarpon with it!!!!!!!!!
  2. How about this one??????????? The abdomen is a coffee bean, the legs are mono (2 different diameters).
  3. Troutbum beat me to the all important question!!!!!!!!!!!! Cancun: Tarpon: orange/grizzly collar light brown tail hackles Seaducers #1 to 3/0. Black Death (red/black) same sizes Bonefish: Any sand shrimp #6 to 1/0 Crazy Charlies (orange) #6 to 2 Permit: Same as bonefish. Snook: Same as Tarpon Baja: Lefty's Deceivers & Clouser Minnows 1/0 to 4/0 will work in blue waters. I live down Mexico way, been there and done it!!!!!!!!!!!!
  4. :hyst: Not fair!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This guy has been spying on us down here in Mexico!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  5. This is a Brown Recluse I tied a few months ago. Abdomen is a coffee bean. This help to save on thread and it makes the spider float flush in the surface film just like the real thing. Trout in stillwaters love them!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  6. TimmyG: First of all, may you have a very happy new year!!!!!!! Secondly, living in Alberta, I assume your line is not for tropical weather and temperatures. Temperatures in and around Vallarta soar to the upper 90's F (upper 30's C). Your line turns gooey and behaves like chinese noodles!!!!!!! Try to get your hands on a good full sinking or FS line, intended for tropical use. I live down Mexico way and ocasionally fish for tarpon and snook in the salt around Cancun and in freshwater for largemouths in hot weather. I normally fish for trout in Central Mexico's mountains. The first time I ever went flyfishing in Cancun for tarpon & snook, I made the mistake of taking with me the same tackle I used for cold water and it was a mess!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I ended up borrowing tackle from a friend of my son and the difference was outstanding. I hope to have found the answer to your problem. As for flies, I love to use Clousers & Creases (1/0 to 3/0) plus Orange Seaducers in 1/0. May your line stay tight while in Vallarta!!!!!!!! Fish from the rocks!!!!!!!!!!!! You could end up catching roosters (not uncommon in Vallarta).
  7. Oatka, Good luck with the new baby!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  8. How the $#&% did you manage to get that kind of permission?????????? Pleeeeeeeease tell us!!!!!!!!!!!!
  9. Beautifl & simple = ELEGANCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  10. YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!! :headbang: :yahoo:  :kicking: :flex: :clapping: :clapping: :clapping:
  11. Apparently the 205BL has been put out of production!!!!!!!!! I still have a dozen, well... that sucks!!! Just checked Umpqua's website and the 206 (barbless) will work just fine!!!!!!!!!! Happy tying!!!!!!!! Please let me know of results: photograph of your reproduction & fish caught with it!!!!!!!!
  12. All of you: Thanks for the warm welcome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You've made me feel veeeery good with your comments about my creations. I've had to adapt a lot of things to come up with flies that work well down here in the waters I fish, close to Mexico City. Our waters are so much different to yours!!!!!! The insects are also different from those you have up North!! Through the years I've found that some classical patterns work well as they are, but I've had to improvise & innovate to really be consistent with catching our wily trout. One piece of info about myself that I missed on my initial post: I don't eat fish!!!!!!!!!!!! I learned how to release them practically unharmed at a very early age. I return them even when I'm fishing stocked (put & take) ponds. I totally dislike the smell of dead fish (it makes me feel like barfing) and when someone is cooking fish... yuck!!!!!! (I've actually barfed!!!!!!!!) For me... fish restaurants are simply out of the question!!!!!!!!!! Take care!!!!!!!!!!!
  13. You've got a strong point there!!!!!! :hyst: My wife NEVER lends me her stove!!!!!!!!!! I had to buy one of those little camping stoves and do my things outside!!!!!!!! (Smells aren't pretty!!!!!!!!!) Take care!!!!!!!
  14. Bruce (MTtyer), It'll work for sure!!!!!!!!!!! Try it also in all black or all brown (with or without the flash). By the way, the Matuka you have in your website is the most perfect I've seen to-date. It's outstanding and gorgeous!!!!!!! I feel overwhelmed to receive such a comment from a pro like you!!!!!!!! Thank you very much!!!!!!!!! Take care you all!!!!!!!!! Seems this winter will be a cold one!!!!!!!!
  15. Mcfluffchucker: Have you ever tried dying your own????? Here's the how-to: White (or natural) goat hair on the skin!!! + mineral dyes (the ones used for textiles) + white vinegar + a pot + some fire!!!!!!!!!!!!! 1.- Put the hair in the pot, cover the hair with the vinegar, 2.- Pour the mineral dye substance, ask the wife to let you borrow the stove, 3.- Light it up, let concoction boil for 5 - 10 minutes, 4.- Drink a single malt, 5.- Stir vigorously, turn flame off, let everything cool off, 6.- Drink another single malt, 7:- Drain leftover vinegar, 8.- Spread dyed goat hair evenly over flat surface, 9.- Let dry, wash with mild soap, let dry, 10.- Drink a third single malt, 11.- Throw everything in the trash can, drink a last single malt, go to sleep. 12.- Comb and align goat hair 13.- Start tying flies!!!!!!!!! Steps 4, 7 and 10 are optional!!!!!!!!! :hyst: Step 11 is used only if you used too little vinegar!!!! :hyst:
  16. Thom: It'll work fine with other type of chenilles!!!!!!!!!! One other thing, try to make a spherical head with the chenille. It works a lot better!!!!! The spherical head will give it a distinctive "signature" underwater when retrieved. I would like to see a photo of your Zarabanda when you finish it, and of course to hear from you when you fish it!!!!!!!!!!!! Feedback is necessary!!!!!!!!!!!
  17. On that last one I would change the bright green for olive!!!!!!! Thinking of Largemouths here in Mexico!! Beautiful flies!!!!!!!!
  18. Gentlemen: I remeber having read (a long time ago) that for this pattern, tied "classical", the peacock herl should be tied to "cup" toward the tail in the rear portion and forwards in the front portion. I know that fish don't give a rat's a** about this, but don't you think it makes for a nicer look? Happy Xmas preparations and tight lines for all of you!!!!!!!!!!! PS. I'm a newbie in this great forum, but a long time tyer down Mexico way.
  19. Dustin: I know, man!!!!!!! I've used this fly for small bass and bluegills and they literally crawl all over it!!!!!!!! Try tying it, it's an easy tie!!!
  20. Dustin!!!! This fly has given me and some of my frinds a lot of trout. My largest rainbow and brown (10 & 4 lb. respectively) were caught using this fly. Give it a try and let me know the results!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love feedback!!!!!!
  21. A new addition to the fly pattern database has been submitted by Carlos Marti: Zarabanda
  22. A new addition to the fly pattern database has been submitted by Carlos Marti: Cricket Magic
  23. :hyst: Steve!!!!!!!!!! You have just made me win a $10 bet I made with one of my fishing buddies here in Mexico City!!!!!!!!!!!! I told him I was going fishing inside the Flytying Forum with my avatar and that I expected at least one solid strike before the day was over. He argued :baby: it wouldn't be so and he had a 100 peso bill to back that up!!!! And you're it!!!!!!!!!!! The pattern is one of my own!!!!!!!!! I call it the Zarabanda Fly!!! My nick!!!!!!!! It resembles a dragonfly nymph. Hook: Tiemco 205BL #14 to #8 Thread: 3/0 olive green Tail: Peacock sword barbules Body: 5 turns of 0.25 mm. lead substitute wire (placed on max. of hook bend to balance fly to ride "hook up") under green fuzzy Wapsi chenille Wing: copper flashabou Overwing: olive marabou Eyes: small to medium size bead chain painted black. I've caught 10 lb. rainbows sight fishing in still waters with that pattern several times. Sometimes you just cast out and let the fly drop to the bottom and do nothing!!!! They´ll grab it on the way down and start heading away till you softly set the hook!!!!!!! Thanks for the interest and for the 10 bucks!!!!!!! My friend is going to hate your guts!!!!!!! :yahoo: :yahoo:
