  1. Yes I saw that. What I am doing is for the UK side and was hoping to pick up the UK guys on here,. I would not however turn down offers from the USA. Not trying to annoy anyone just trying to get this thing noticed as it should be Cheers Keith
  2. Hi Folks, As many of you may be aware the USA has a superb charity dedicated to ladies with breast cancer. Its called Casting for Recovery and they have just recently started a group in the UK. So far the UK group have only run one retreat, but they have four more organised for this year. I am hoping to be able to raise funds for the UK group and to do so I have arranged to do a 24 hour non-stop fly-tying session in May in the UK. If you would like to sponsor me to raise funds for the UK arm then please email me at [email protected] to arrange details. If you would prefer to donate to the USA group then you can do so direct at their website: http://www.castingforrecovery.org/ I will also be running a raffle and if anyone would like to donate prizes they will be greatly received. Any questions please send me an email Many thanks Keith

    First DSLR

Hi foks and thankyou all for your very excellent tips and ideas. Well after lot and I mean a LOT of umming and aahing I finally decided on a Canon. What I really was thinking of originally was a Canon 350D but as you are all aware its an "old" model. But it suits my budget and my skill level ! So I tried the 400D as thats what a lot of places carry and then Canon announce the 450D ! Now I am confused which aint hard I looked all over the place for a good deal and finally went into a local shop. Told the guy what I was thinking of and just mentioned the 350D. OK the 350 is 8mp and the 400 is 10 with a few other upgrades but thinking is it worth it the shop guy actually said not. I asked about the 350 and he said he had a very nice second hand deal. And it was. I got the camera, 18-55 lens and a 90-300 ef lens with a 1gb card for £400. Good warranty too. And as a bonus I bought a 1gb card then opened the slot to drop in the card and found a 2gb Sandisk in the slot. Say nothing ok!! Now all I have to do is play with it a few times and i may even put a few pics on here... Thanks again for your thoughts and input. It really was well worth it to me and a great help.

    Hmmm...

Having just looked through this post and checked out the link to the book did anyone notice what looks like a water mark in nearly all the pics of the insects in amber? Looks like "HY" to me. So may be he lifted these pics to. No doubt the guy is spending money on books of instruction in fly fishing and tying for the extremists he supports or is supported by. In which case Graham's pic comes into its own. Guess he must have his own bazaar. Next to Ali Baba and his 40 thieves..........
  6. Newfie thanks for the link. I am in the UK so the exchange rate import tax etc would make it a bit more than I can get it here for. Thanks for your efforts. Which camera are you using at the moment?
  7. Hi folks, I am considering a couple of DSLR's and wondered what your thoughts are on the following. Canon 400 (as against the 350) Nikon D40 Pentax K100D Much appeciated Keith
  8. Thanks Peter, The first one was a must have shot if you know what I mean. This one was about the most level of them! LOL The lichens were amazing. So many different types in a small spot. I have a few more pictures that could be put up on the site. I am not YET the owner of a DSLR but someday I will be. The camera I use now is an Olympus SP-350 compact digital which does what I need for flys and such. Also have a Nikon Coolpix 880 compact digital but the batteries are poor and its like carrying around a house brick. I will see what else I can find for you pro's out there. Cheers Keith
  9. I have been looking at all these great photos using a digi and thinking well I could put up a couple of pics so lets have all your crits on these couple. The first is a Scottish loch and the second some of the moss and lichens I found growing on a tree alongside a river that ran out of the loch. The lichen is not as sharp as I would like but you get the idea....... Keith
  10. I Like the scenery shots guys see my next attempt....
  11. Ashby, Its a 1/2 penny and is dated the year of my birth. OMG am I really that old???? Great photo Keith
  12. They didnt turn it off yet. And still no photo
  13. I like that idea Will. Even the fact that the flies are light coloured patterns they dont look washed out. So I guess "soft and even" IS good Cheers Keith
  14. Just like everyone else said that was one hard vote. I found myself looking for absolute perfection in the end and I THINK I found it in the fly I chose. :dunno: I was looking for one that appealed to ME. Just the tying skills used and wow there are some super skills used in these flys. Whoever wins this can hold their head up really high in this flytying world of ours. Remember however that we would not be able to be as picky as we have been without the superb photos supplied by Will. Excellent work all round guys and congrats to all of you who "tied one on" Keith :headbang:
