  1. Got mine in the mail as well! Great stuff everyone! Now, if I can only survive until that first hatch I should be able to avoid the loony bin!!
  2. Great fly Chad! I've also found the virtues of Magic Stretch to be great!! Kev, It comes in 2 sizes that in know of (0.5 mm and 1 mm) and two colors (clear and black) and is available at craft stores that carry beading supplies. If I remember right, it's $1.39 for 10 meters!! (compared to $2.99 for 1 meter at fly shops)
  3. I also stuff a few turns of wire up into the bead. It centers the bead on the shank and is much faster than using thread wraps.
  4. No problem. I'm willing to teach my bad habbits to anyone that will sit still long enough!!
  5. Oh, the latex. It's latex strip wound in overlapping wraps. Color the sides and top with marker then give it a bath in softex. The softex keeps it from drying out and cracking and gives it 'depth' for the color to come out.
  6. Stony, I assume you're talking about the wing case. It's thin skin in the brown bustard pattern. It's great stuff and has enough streach to make it easy to work with, but not so much as to make it flimsy. Tie it in and cut the "V" in it after it's on the fly.
  7. A great afternoon of flys and pizza!! Next month we'll have to put together a theme and do a bunch more :headbang:
  8. Peccary hair also makes great 'quill body' type flys. The various colors can get you a wide range of fly types and the segmentation is great. It is really though to find in the fly shops.
  9. I find that if you use cinamon rolls and crissants you tend to catch executive fish, and not the staff variety :hyst:
  10. Cool deal Riff. Just make sure you cover the latex with softex: it will keep it from drying out/cracking and give it that 'depth' of color that makes it shine.
  11. Got mine in the mail! Great swap everyone and I'll be getting them wet soon!!
  12. Vern-O, I know EXACTLY what the issue is. Based on the sysmptoms, cause and effect, ratio of the spin of the hair to hood shank diameter, you're obviously spending way too much time at the vise and not enough time on the river!!!
  13. After trying 4 versions, the batch is headed your way!
  14. Got the flys in the mail!! Excellent bunch of bugs!! Thanks to all who participated in this one and I can't wait to get them wet!!
  15. Mine didn't get here yet either and I didn't even try brown-nosing!!! The only difference between brown-nosing and a total butt kisser is depth perception . . . . :hyst:
  16. They should have gotten there by now Juice. Did they show up yet?
  17. Nice bug Redwings! I like adding those little touches that make flys just a bit more realistic. The fish don't seem to mind and it makes me feel better about them!!
  18. Juice, The bugs should be there tomorrow. That should give you some time to sort before you have to send them out. chrisfish - no batteries needed. Just fish the tailwater of a hydro station an use their power!
  19. Juice: #8, 440 volt, 3-phase, hydraulically-actuated, bead head, plecop-o-maniac nymphs headed your way in today's mail (try fitting all that on a toe tag!)
  20. I heard you'd better stay away from Slippery Pete. He got busted last year for a false "fisherman's comp" claim!!
  21. oatka, one of these days you'll have to break out of the county line and come over to the 'better' side of NY and fish the Salmon, West Canada, Moose, Black and a whole host of other blue ribbon water that's only about 2 hours from you. Although fishing the same water all the time isn't bad, it just gets boring when the fish you keep catching know your name and ask you how the wife and kids are before you release them for the 67th time. . . . .
  22. It looks like the "sheath" material that is at the base of immature feathers (feathers that have not fully elongated). For bugs, look for any small pieces that look like they've been "cut" and also material that may have been incorporated into any type of webby/cocoon looking stuff.
  23. I get my porcupine guard hair from road kill. Much cheaper than buying it, but just make sure you stop to 'harvest' the materials far enough away from your house so the people driving by don't know you . . . . Otherwise they stop to ask you "What's for dinner?"
