  1. I previously had a fly tying setup that i had built up over a few years but lost it in a unfortunate incident. I am wanting to replace everything and start tying again. Does anyone have any advice if whether or not the kits with the vise, tools and materials are any good, I have looked at the Orvis kits and a few others and they all run between $150-$200. Just try to start out on the right foot this time around. Thank You in advance for any help.

  5. I stumbled upon these fishing shirts and decided why not since they were cheaper than others. Great designs, fast shipping. Can't have too many fishing shirts, right? Here are the specs and website to check them out. http://www.wickedcatchgear.com/#_l_gh Sun Protection : 50 UPF (Ultraviolet Protection Factor) Moisture Wicking Antimicrobial Lightweight So, I recieved the shirt in the mail on a Friday at 4:30 PM, I made up some excuse to the girlfriend so I could wait for the mailman to take them with us fishing for the weekend. Saturday morning we get up at 6 AM and didn't come back to the dock until it was dark. All I can say is that this is the best shirt I have used fishing, no sunburns or any redness and had a small tan. I can say enough about these shirts. I have a couple of other shirts and my favorite used to be the Columbia shirts because of the breathability, but this blow them out of the water. As soon as I got home, I ordered 3 more. Check these shirts out if you are out on the lake all day and don't want to put on the oily sunscreen, you won't be disappointed. http://www.wickedcatchgear.com/#_l_gh What fishing shirts do you use?
  6. I can't remember the exact name of this fly; some type of marabou clouser. I went back up north to SW Wisconsin to trout fish grant county. This was right after all that hail and rain hit the area. Nearby streams had great clarity, but I had permission to fish a private stretch on Castle Rock Creek. The stream had 2-3 inch clarity. I cast this fly downstream in medium-fast waters and caught 15 Browns in 7 hours of fishing. I don't have a picture of the fly on my vise, but this was the image of it that I used for my tie. I tried the BWO hatch, nymphs and scuds with no luck. Give this one a shot sometime if you find yourself fishing stained waters, it might be the ticket for you as well.

  14. SWAP IS FULL! Hey all, UPDATE: Because of the interest in this swap and it filling up so quickly, I've made room for singletrack to join, so everyone will now be tying 8 flies each! I'm sure no one minds tying one more fly! Been a loooong time since I've been on the forum, but anxious to get back in the game. What better way than to start a swap! This will be a favorite tailwater trout flies swap. Let's keep it to sizes 16 or smaller nymphs or dry flies. I've got room for 7 tyers, not including myself, so each person will be tying 7 flies. This swap is open to international tyers. I'm adding my fishing buddy Nick as the 1st to sign up and this will be his first swap! - Deadline for receiving flies will be March 5th , but I will send back flies if I receive all of them earlier than the deadline. I apologize for the short deadline, but I will be leaving the following week for some fishing on the North Platte and would like to put all of your flies to use - Remember to include toe tags with your username! 15. Dear Anglers from the Fly Tying Forum It has passed long time since I posted my last thread in this iexcellent Forum. First at all I want to give you my best wishes for all of you and your beloved ones in these Holidays. This time I bring for you my last video to show some of the Fly-Tails I was tying in the last weeks. I will use major part of these Fly-tails as a complement to my Attilas (own made spoonfly) and have more fun in my fishing. I have tied different colours combination with the purpose to have many alternatives to choose at the moment when I’m following a catch. It is true that colours and weather conditions go together. Then, depending on day light, water colour, and the specie that I am looking for, I will use different combinations. As I said, before to get wet many of these Fly-Tails will be set together with my Attilas (you can watch my Attila Spoonfly in my Youtube Channel to understand what I meant). I’m sure, I will enjoy a lot doing captures with these Fly-Tails and my own lures. Here in Peru, is very strange to see an angler fishing with his own lures/flies/etc. The materials I have used were: - Saltwater hook Eagle Claw Octopus 4/0 and Mustad #8 - For the heads: Deer hair (tail and belly) colours: White, Black, Yellow, Chartreuse, Fl. Hot Pink, Fl. Light Blue, Fl. Orange, Purple, Red, Blue - Artificial Craft fur: almost same colours as Deer Hair - Coloured threads - White Krystal Flash for bodies - Coloured Krystal Flash for sides and back - In some Fly-Tails I used feathers for the heads, to give more volume and movement I hope you like this video and your suggestions and comments are welcome. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, Antonio Here is the link to my video: Saltwater & Freshwater Fly-Tails Arsenal
  16. Step by step to an easy way of Parachute fly tying with Wolfgang Fabisch. Parachute flies Here's an easy instruction for tying parachute flies. The main problem is usually tying down the hackle and making a proper whip - finish. I'll show you an easy solution allowing you to finish your fly in seconds without tying down your hackle fibers, and it costs no extra money! http://www.w-fabisch.com/parachutes.html All the best Wolfgang Fabisch
  17. I just started to tie my own flys for fly fishing, and I'm looking for some basic flys that will be effective for bass. I have tied one cork popper that produced very well, but I don't want to tie just topwater. Also if you can tell me how to use the flies I tie that would be very appreciative!
  18. Some CDC that I got from some mallards that I shot.
  19. My First Wine Cork Popper Fly This is my first popper fly that I have ever tied. I didn't have much material so I scavenged around the house to find a half empty wine bottle. I could not drink it because i'm only 15 so I asked my mom to finish it off. I used a power sander to taper the cork, then a razor blade to cut the cork. I decided to make this because I was sick of buying foam poppers that break within the first day of use, and I wanted to try my first tying kit that I got last week. If you could give me any tips or pointers for my future bass poppers that would be very helpful! Also any other patterns that I should tie for bass would be useful as well.
