  1. Hey guys. Can't remember exactly when we did the surface water swap.... but I remember 2015 I caught a bunch of Australian salmon (kahawai) on the deerhair popper we got from it. Today... i had two of the poppers with me while I fished some virgining flood waters... thankfully I did too, because I happened onto a hot little surface bite on baby tarpon up to about 25 inches long (quite large for freshwater billabongs and creeks in these parts and great fun on the 2wt). Unfortunately I lost both to fish.... Thank you to the tiers!
  2. I went out to Titusville the other day and found the baby Tarpon to be abnormally active. This was one of four that day on my confidence fly, my version of the black and purple EP baitfish fly.
  3. I seem to be having two major problems when tying and spinning with deer hair. My first problem is when I spin deer hair the end result when I give my popper a haircut is that it doesn't have that tight compact deer hair look unless I cut the hair the extremely close to the shank of the hook. My second problem is when i go to whip finish my fly, I can't seem to keep the flared deer hair out of my finishing knot. Any help will be appreciated!
  4. HI All , I am new to the Forum and looking for a bit of help , having a Family holiday to , Bradenton Beach on Anna Maria Island on Florida Gulf Coast in first week or two of AUGUST this year and plan to get a while to get in a bit of SALTWATER fly fishing ! have not done any Saltwater Fly before :-( I believe the fish in the area are awesome with everything from sea trout, snook to Tarpon (farther out by boat), I was wondering if anyone can give me some guidance on BEST FLIES TO USE & ALSO a few locations to try a bit of flats fishing or wading with a 9Wt fly rod, on or around Anna Maria , it extends down to Long Boat Quay to south and Tampa bay to North ? Anyone been and make recommendations would be GREAT ! :-)
  5. Hey all.. Not doing so great at the moment... But I am going stir crazy so needed to get out of the house this morning. Visited one of my favourite freshwater locations to find both the banks and water overgrown with weeds and lillies... Oh well.. some accurate casting ewas required, and while not many were eager, atleast a couple of little fellas were hungry (A bigger one took the fly about 10 minutes later). We haven't had a great wet season this year, hence the darker colours. Still a very pretty fish to add to my list of captures on the little black and pink woolly bugger I like so much. It came from this gap in the water lillies. Always makes for a fun time with the 2 weight Ended up moving downstream as the tarpon weren'[t really playing and the tilapia were very spooky. I tied on one of Kirk Dietrich's Mylar Poppers from the Saltwater cravings swap hosted by Panama Red. I love the way it sits in the water, and it's colours in the sunlight are simply sexy. Just another reason why I love swapping with the guys and girls on here. THANKS!
