  1. So what's on your Christmas list this year? Or what are you gifting that's fishy? I'm hoping Mrs. Claus gets me a new Renzetti Traveler Salt.. I'm tying a box of classic maine streamers for my buddy and I'll be getting my brother a gift certificate for some new waders (too personal an item to guess the fit).
  2. Hey guys. Really looking forward to warmer weather and getting back to smallmouth fishing. I've caught some on my 5wt with small buggers, but am looking to throw bigger streamers at them and am in the market for a 7wt. Thinking about picking up one of the old Orvis Clearwaters while they're on sale and available. I wanted to hear what you like to use for smallmouth fishing including: - Rod weight/length - Lines - Leaders - Flies Thanks in advance!
  3. I am looking for my first fly rod. So, I went to my local Orvis the other day and did some casting out back with a few different rods. I tried three different ones and the one that was considered fast action felt the best (surprise, surprise it was also the most expensive). Now, by no means did I spend a significant amount of time with any of them but I did get an idea. I am curious if it could be detrimental to my learning curve to choose a fast action as my first or should I be more of the mindset of 'go with what feels good'?
  4. My inlaws live on ft myers beach, thinking of making a trip down there sometime. How bad will the salt mess up my fly gear in 3-4 days of fishing? I think I read somewhere that i would need to clean it everyday or something, but I don't remember. Last time I was there I did a little bait fishing off docks in their canal and caught about 20 mangrove snapper, 3 sheephead and 8 jacks in about 8 hours total over 3 days. the dolphins show up, then nothing till next day. getting my 2 piece 9 weight down there without a rod tube might be an issue. (airlines) maybe make one out of pvc? I don't think I would bring my 4 weight. thanks in advance.
