I found this image of a Tenkara fly that I want to tie (this is my first attempt at tying a fly from a picture); I have only been tying for a short while now, and am not sure how to go about tying this particular fly... here's the image (click it to enlarge the view): Can someone give me some suggestions for the materials for the body and hackle? My thinking is: the yellow body is possibly Cream Life Flex and the hackle is possibly Grizzly "High and Dry" Hackle or something stiffer and probably a Daiichi 1120 or 1130 size #14 hook. I haven't figured out how to get the hackle wrapped... is it just over the Life Flex or in between turns? Also, I can't decide if this is a wet or dry fly... any ideas on that? -
Having nothing to do except tie flies today, I found some literature on tenkara rods... and so I was wondering are there flies that are specifically tied for the tenkara rods, or can I use some of the sakasa kebari flys for my "normal" fly rod? Mind you that I'm just exploring new ideas, and I like the forward soft hackle, wondering how it would do with my Scott rod. SD

This is my newest project. It is designed to build Furled Leaders, Tenkara lines and shooting heads or short fly lines. The head unit pops off so it could be set up further from the lay-out board for Tenkara lines or other projects. The lay-out board is hinged but they are removed for the photo. It is solid oak and has no need for a drill or other power system. Plug it in the wall and get going, push the button and start building leaders.
