Steeldrifter 0 Report post Posted March 25, 2022 True Greg lol that is the best. I'm just so amazed tonight. I honestly have not heard silence in a year. Yet if I turn off everything, I hear no sound. It just sounds so weird lol. Very happy, but just odd. I feel so happy today about this I can not even tell ya. Anyone that has dealt with tinnitus, I know a few here have, they know how bad it makes life. But tonight after I got home from the ENT. I thought it felt better so I sat back in the bed room, turned everything off, and listened. And for the first time in a year, I heard silence 😁 I can't even tell you how happy that makes me to say that!
DFoster 0 Report post Posted March 25, 2022 13 hours ago, partsman said: Glad to hear the news for you Steve, I told my wife today I need to make a appointment for a hearing specialist today, and that is a big step for me. Any kind help for my hearing would be great, and I’m taking Dfosters recommendations into consideration to be discussed with hearing specialist. Thanks, Mike. Mike ,Tinnitus and Hearing loss are 2 separate issues and either alone or in combination they can make life miserable at times. I have no affiliation with Bose- I mentioned their hearing aids simply to make you aware there are reasonably priced aids out there should you need them. Keep in mind the life span of hearing aids is about 4 years and most insurance pays zero. If your a veteran you can get them through the VA. If it turns out you have hearing loss and depending on your personal situation a set from Bose may work and potentially could save you a lot of money. You have 90 days to return them for a full refund if they don't work for you. In my state hearing doctors are not allowed to sell hearing aids, Massachusetts views that as a conflict of interest. Just be aware that some states do allow the doctor that's diagnosing your hearing loss to sell you on a hearing aid purchase. In 1988 my ears starting ringing after a show and haven't stopped since. I was 23 and I'm 57 now. I got diagnosed with 70% hearing loss in 2012. Both are self inflicted resulting from being a musician. I truly hope the doctor has good news for you. Steeldrifter 0 Report post Posted March 25, 2022 Well, last night I went to bed, and ready for this? I went to Sleep! I didn't lay there trying to find a spot where my ear was not bothering me, had no ringing/buzzing/roaring. I got probably the best nights sleep I have had in 5+yrs. I feel so great today that I am actually just waiting for the other shoe to drop Because there is no way life will let me feel this good without some sort of repercussions lol
partsman 0 Report post Posted March 25, 2022 Glad to hear it, pun intended! As I sit here and the ringing gets louder, Dean, yes most of hearing issues are self inflicted as well. 30 years at GM and cutting wood with a chainsaw and yea I love classic rock loud! I will 65 in June, which is scary in itself oh and did I mention 11 years working at my local Ace hardware after retiring from GM with those stupid radios and ear phone. I guess I should be happy I can still kinda of hear anything. Oh well getting old is definitely not for the faint of heart! Mike.

I experienced sudden acute hearing loss in my left ear back in early April. The ENT was thankfully able to help me recover about 80% of it, but the tinnitus has remained. I'm hopeful these findings will go a long way towards improving treatment for tinnitus. Hearing loss and tinnitus are not something I had planned on dealing with before the age of 40. Hope your condition continues to improve, Steve! Chris
Steeldrifter 0 Report post Posted August 17, 2022 Thankfully my tinnitus is pretty much gone now since February. After that last issue I had, when I finally went back to the ENT and they cleaned my ear again, they found that the prior ENT had pushed some of the small hairs in my ear right into my ear drum which somehow caused the terrible tinnitus I had been dealing with for the year after that. So after they took care of that I'm pretty much back to normal again thankfully. I if I sit in a quiet room I can barely hear a bit of a noise, but nothing that even affects my every day life like before. That honestly is something I never want to have to deal with ever again. A sound in your head is something you can not get away from and just drives you to the point of almost wanting to do bad things to yourself after a while. I never want to deal with that again and feel terrible for those that are still dealing with it.

flytire 0 Report post Posted August 18, 2022 i just went to the medical clinic for ringing in my ears and the doc recommended a nasal spray and claritan/xertec or similar doesnt do shit for the ringing 👎 but my sinuses are clear 👍 i guess ill try an ENT doc to see if he/she can help
Steeldrifter 0 Report post Posted August 18, 2022 Norm I tried the same back when I had my ear issues. I took Claritan for a month and was using nasal spray about 4-6 times per day and got no relief for the ringing from them. Just depends on what is causing your ringing as to what can be done. If you aren't suffering from any real hearing lose or any damage then it may just be like mine where you need to have them cleaned. If that is the case, and the ENT says they are going to do a microsuction, then make sure you tell them to turn it to its lowest setting. The first ENT had it cranked up when he originally did mine, and that thing is LOUD inside your ear. The loud sound is part of what gave me such bad tinnitus when it all started (plus the hairs he pushed into my ear drum). But the sound is what caused the real bad ringing for me for the first couple months, until that calmed down and then it was the more subtle ringing from the hairs against my ear drum. So if they do that tell them to turn it down to its lowest setting that they can so you don't have to deal with the side effects that can cause.
