USPS out to screw rod builders and shippers

Recommended Posts

The rod tube only, no box, wrapped in decent weight packing paper.  I had them run a California zip code which is the most expensive to ship to from here in Illinois so that was a maximum amount.

Went on Ebay shipping calculator and Fedex was definitely the cheapest for a 31"x2"x2" package at 1 pound, next came UPS and USPS was same as what I was quoted today at my local Post Office

Hmm..Just seems odd to me they gave you a quote that high is all, that's why I asked. I ship around 3-5 rods per week, all at Staples UPS counter so no discounts or anything. I just shipped a 34" x2.5" pvc tube (rod) which was just a hair under 3lbs to California the other day, and it was $21.90 with insurance, and I'm right above you in Michigan so pretty much same distance, or even a tad further.

Fed ex is usually about $1.00-$1.50 less than UPS, but for about the past 6-8 months now Fed Ex has been extremely unreliable with delivery times and losing items 😬 So just be aware of that if you start using them a lot.

BTW just heard the other day USPS is talking about going up yet again this summer on normal sized packages.
