Poopdeck 0 Report post Posted August 10, 2022 Seating it lower will certainly increase pressure if that’s what you want to do, it just won’t help the powder burn with less smoke. I concern myself with making sure the bullet fits in the magazine and fits in the chamber. Can’t help you on measuring or adjusting for pressure by bullet seating depth. I would think it’s easier to adjust pressure by adjusting the amount of powder.
Steeldrifter 0 Report post Posted August 11, 2022 Halfway through another batch tonight. Doing 6.1gn with 1.140 COL. Also found my first bad case.
Steeldrifter 0 Report post Posted August 15, 2022 Put 150 rds down range today. I think I am happy and found my load I like now. I did 50 rds of the 5.9gr 1.155 COL. Then 100 rds 6.1gr 1.140COL. The 6.1gr 1.140COL shot pretty clean with no extra smoke, had the same recoil that I'm use to with Blazer brass, and was very accurate. Think that will be my normal everyday target rd I will stick with now.
Steeldrifter 0 Report post Posted August 21, 2022 The reloading has been going really well. Been doing about 50-100rds every day lately. Got about 900rds on the shelf now so nice to have a little cushion there for range time. Just got another 1000 brass the other day. Found the joys of crimped primers as well 😆 In the 1000rds of once fired brass I would come to one every once in a while that was a real bitch to decap/resize. Told my buddy about it and he said yup probably crimped primers in the case. I looked at the headstamps and the ones that are giving me issues were some military brass so they are crimped. Not a huge deal, just takes a bit more pressure to pop them out and then I quickly ream them a tad and new primers go right in. But had me wondering what was going on at first for sure before I learned about crimped primers. Already almost out of the 1lb of powder and down to my last 200 primers. Gonna have to run out to BPS next weekend and see if I can snag some powder. Then online for primers since they are out of stock everywhere due to the shortage. I found where I can get them online, but I hate paying the price they want, plus the damn shipping/hazmat fee as well. Also found another use for the brass tumbler. I pulled the trigger apart on the PSA Dagger this evening. Took the connector and the bar and I tumbled them in my brass tumbler for about 2hrs to polish them up. Got it back together and definitely made for a smoother trigger pull and break.

Jenkins 0 Report post Posted September 1, 2022 Which brass are you using usually Steel? Been trying to find some decent quality but it's either out of stock lately or overpriced as hell.
Steeldrifter 0 Report post Posted September 1, 2022 I has bought 1000 brass that was once fired off Ammoseek. But now a rod customer that is also into reloading just sent me about 4000 range pick up brass. So mostly its mixed stuff like Blazer, Federal, Winchester, and such. I have just been pulling out the military crimped stuff from it and using the rest.
Steeldrifter 0 Report post Posted September 4, 2022 Finding powder locally has been tough, I hate ordering it online because you get wacked with the $30 hazmat fee. Lucked out today and found 1lb of the HS-6 that I have been using at the local BPS. They only other pistol powder they had was Autocomp. I have not used that one yet so will have to look up the load data for that one for 9mm. Anyone here ever use Autocomp before?
cencalfly 0 Report post Posted September 7, 2022 Hi Steve; I use AutoComp in my Beretta 40S&W and 9mm 92FS. It should work well i a Glock. It meters really well. Hodgdon reloading page will have some quick access loading info (https://www.hodgdonreloading.com/reloading-data-center?rdc=true&type=53). My son uses it for his reloads in USPSA competitions. cencalfly 0 Report post Posted September 7, 2022 Except for precision rounds I use "once fired" range pickups or reuse my own. For pistol it's usually no issue. Just look for splits or other defects. Rifle loads have a shorter lifespan. Look up "incipient case head separation." I don't know if you've reloaded and rifle carriages yet but it is advised to use case lube. I did not use it once and it was a pain to get the case out of the die. Use to much lube and you can dimple the case shoulder. I keep my questionable brass in a can and recycle it when I have a decent quantity.
Steeldrifter 0 Report post Posted September 28, 2022 Been doing a "little" reloading at night the past week after getting done with rod work 😁
cencalfly 0 Report post Posted September 29, 2022 Nice! Once you get to cranking the handle it just starts piling up. These days that's a good dip into the retirement account if purchased. Out here in some places you'd make front page news with your hoard of ammunition. Other places they'd just say that Bubba looks to be short on ammo. Steeldrifter 0 Report post Posted September 29, 2022 LOL yep! I tell ya man, with my OCD personality....This may not be a good hobby for me😁 And ya got to love when you see news reports about someone...and they start out " He had a horde of 3 guns and 1000 rds"....really ...3 guns and1000 rds??? LOL he was a light weight Especially with the cost of reloading stuff now. I just bought 1K small pistol primers about 2 weeks ago ($132 for 1K including hazmat fee). Now I am already down to 200 primers left I messed up though last time . I only orderd 1k primers and paid the $35+ hazmat fee. I should have orders at least 2k+ and would have got more for the same haz mat fee. I think I'm gonna do that and order 2-3K primers this weekend and just pay the $35'ish fee on them fort 2-3k primers.
DarrellP 0 Report post Posted October 7, 2022 You got to always chuckle at what the news calls hoarding. I have my guns and my Dad's guns. I guess I would qualify as one of those guys.
troutguy 0 Report post Posted January 21 Anyone reload 40 SW with cast bullets? I have some 140 grain lead. Tried some WST and Titegroup. Need to try these loads. Anyone have 700x, Titegroup, HP-38, HS6, or WST loads you like for 140 or 165gr lead?
