Made a few modifications to Charlie Craven’s version, mainly in the underwing. Great thing about this fly is, with all the foam for buoyancy, you don’t need to use your best hackle (the grizzly was a webby saddle which, while not adding much to floatation, looks pretty buggy).

hook - Dai Riki 730 #8
thread - Uni 6/0 tan
tag - Orvis saltwater thread fluoro orange/resin
tail - deer hair
rib - xsmall wire gold
abdomen - Starburst dubbing tan
body hackle - ginger (undersize by 2)
overbody/head - 2mm foam tan
underwing - Congo Hair shiner tan
wing - deer hair
indicator - Parapost yarn hot orange
thorax - Ice Dub hot orange
legs - medium rubber cornsnake
hackle - grizzly

Scott

Thank you.  My setup is very basic - a 15yr old Canon Powershot SD750 point-and-shoot that appears to have a decent macro, an Ott light + 2 clamp-on lights (LED), and a piece of grey craft foam as a background.

Your setup might be "very basic" but it's also quite sophisticated - and very well thought out...  Well done!

Oh so right, it is neat stuff. FYI - A jackdaw is an English crow and has an amazing dark blue/gray color.

Chugbug27, very nice tie, I’m wondering did you use the orange silk as tying thread and tie in the body threads at the back of the hook? I’ve got to try a few these!

Thanks, Mike,
