Oh Jeez, I've been to so many over the years

Led Zeppelin in 73,75, and 77 were all top notch

Yes..Yessongs 1973. A couple of the songs on that album were recorded where I lived at the time.

Genesis in 1983-ish..Music was note perfect

Lynyrd Skynyrd..1977 right before the plane crash

Peter Frampton..The original "Frampton Comes Alive" tour 1976

Steely Dan. I saw them in Michigan at a music school in Interlochen in 1975. They seldom toured and this was a real stroke of luck that my cousins had tickets for this show.

Deep Purple..LOUD, but good. My ears rang for 2 days afterwards

Styx...Opened for Kansas and MOPPED Kansas up

Those are the ones that really stand out to me in my memory. I've seen  The Who. Their show was meh. Daltrey's voice was toast and Townsend  and Moon were toasted.

Black Sabbath was good, but Ozzy was off the night I saw them the first time

Iron maiden/Judas Priest at the tower theater in Darby PA. Early 80’s. Best because it featured thumping metal in a small venue made for sound. My second was journey, George Thorogood and the rolling stones at JFK in phila, I believe in 1980. Journey was a joke and should not have been at this concert unless they bought tickets. The stones were the stones but George Thorogood blew everybody off the stage. So many others including Black Sabbath, AC/DC, Zepplin, Rush, The Who, Jethro Tull, Bob Dylan, come to think of it Bob Dylan was pretty spectacular, Ted Nugent, Foghat, ZZ Top, and plenty more that I’ve forgotten about.

Stephane Grapelli with Martin Taylor -- Cafe Society, Philadelphia.

Pink Floyd -- Spectrum, Philadelphia

Merle Haggard, San Jose

Any of the dozen or more times I've seen the Seldom Scene, but especially in Aptos, CA where they played "California Earthquake" within the shadow of Loma Prieta to a crowd that had all suffered damage from that quake.

Squirrel Nut Zippers, at the Birchmere in VA.

About half of the 200 or so times I saw the Greatful Deadm from sea to shining sea.

Stan Kenton - from the late 50s to early 60s. The music and players defined how I approached music.
Best concert I played in was Tony Bennett at Orchestra Hall in Minneapolis in the early 80s. All instruments were acoustic and the sound was amazing. Tony was in top form that night.

My all-time favorite was Sting at Riverwood Amphitheatre in St. Louis, MO. It was one of those velvety-soft summer nights when the air feels like warm water. As the sun went down, a storm passed by, close enough to be seen and felt, but not so close as to ruin the show. The damp, heavy air gave way to lovely cool night-breezes, the sky over the theatre was embellished with flickers of purple lightning and there were soft rumbles of thunder off in the distance. It was the "Nothing Like the Sun" tour, so a lot of the songs were mellow-jazz-infused and moody, and the natural theatrics just served to enhance the atmosphere of the show.

Tied for second place would be Billy Joel and Elton John on the same stage at Busch Stadium in St. Louis, and Simon & Garfunkel at Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids, MI.

I also saw Tom Petty at Van Andel around that same time, which should have been great, but actually wasn't anything to write home about. The Black Crowes opened (meh); Petty and the Heartbreakers came out and played about a 1-hour set that sounded like it was lip-synched to the recorded versions of the songs. No riffing, no solos, no audience engagement. Plus there was so much weed smoke floating around that we all got to drive home half-baked whether we smoked or not. 😄

All of you are stirring a lot of memories, flytire I was at the Stepping Stone for the same Guess Who show I was stationed in Davisville at the time.1976 Aerosmith with Gary Wright opening and the Airplane with Fleetwood Mac both shows at Colt Park in Hartford. Zeplin a couple of times, Heart was my last concert 79 in Biloxi MS. lost interest in concerts after the 70's I don't know why.

A couple that come to mind,

AC/DC, Back in Black, 1980, I had absolutely no idea what I was in for.

Styx, Grand Illusion tour, 1977, small venue in Chicago where the acoustics were superb.

Jimmy Buffet when he was still a warm up act.

So many others but truthfully, more times than not, the live performance was often a let down, even by my favorite artists:

Jethro Tull in Chicago, the echo was so bad, you were still hearing the first tune when the band was on their 3rd

the Beach Boys when both of us were still young, and yet Dennis was so drunk he kept falling off his stool while drumming,

and many more memorable but lousy performances
