Mason’s Mighty Mayfly (variation)

Original has a poly downwing but I prefer the upright position for better visibility. Tied here as a washed out Adams; change color/size to suit your needs.

hook - WFC Model 3 #12
thread - Uni 8/0 tan
shuck - Congo Hair shiner tan
tail - grizzly
body - biot tan
pfd - 2mm foam tan
wing - Congo Hair white
hackle - grizzly/light ginger

Hex Trude - First tied by Jeff Bonnin in 1987.  Jeff was the owner of Steelhead Connection Custom Flies in North Muskegon, MI.  It's a tough and easy to tie pattern designed for the Hexagenia hatch.

Thread - tan monochord

Tail - 6-10 lighter moose mane fibers

Body - pale yellow or yellow poly yarn, split lengthwise

Wing - white calf tail, tied trude

Hackle - brown and grizzly, mixed

Main ingredients were harvested there and that’s where I’ll fish it, primarily.

hook - WFC Model 3 #10
thread - Uni 6/0 tan 
tail - sharptail marabou 
1st rib - medium tinsel opal 
2nd rib - small wire silver
body - Ice Dub hare’s ear 
body hackle - ginger
shoulder - sharptail
collar/head - pronghorn

It’s just about that time of the year……shad fry. Don’t want to be caught without some 3” white baitfish that aren’t clousers.  

Hook - Size 8 TMC 8089

Thread - 6/0 black, rusty brown, olive, flo green

Body - EZ body braid. Size small and some with medium to add a little girth

Top - white zonker strip

Flash - various colors Krystal flash

Body - Dubbing or uni yarn

Ribbing – Oval tinsel, silver or gold

Wing - One or two pairs of hen or rooster feathers

Collar - Rooster feather

Hexagenia Limbata - This pattern was first tied at the Backcast Fly Shop in Benzonia, MI in the late '70's/early '80's.  Unfortunately, the shop owner could not remember the exact date the fly was designed or the shop's tyer that developed this pattern.

Thread - black or brown

Tail - medium clump of moose mane

Rib - tying thread, crisscrossed

Body - golden deer hair under natural deer hair, tied parallel to the shank and extended about 1/3rd the tail length and flared at the tail

Wing - white calf tail, tied upright and divided

Hackle - grizzly, brown, or both
