October Flies From The Vise

The 70’s are alive! My first Wally wing. I found the Wally wing process simple enough. The hard part was wrapping the hackle around it. No matter what I did I just couldn’t get it to lay right. Tied it in before a higher level of frustration set in. I’ll work on it, maybe switch to CDC. Critiques are always welcome. I’m not overly sensitive.

Hook - size 12

Thread - Olive UTC 70

Wings - Mallard flank

Tail - dun micro fibbets

Body - Ginger polish quill

Thorax - March Brown dubbing

Hackle - Brown.

I like it!! When I tied those all the way back into the 70's (LOL) we called them "wonder wings". I am curious...how and why the change in terminology?

That was an interesting read, thanks, I did not know any of that.  I haven't tied either of those style wing, don't have enough hair left to pull out.

Reading that made me wonder if the wonder wings were a result of tying a Darby two feather style of fly.

Nice tie, BTW @Poopdeck, looks good to me.

Thank you, You are to kind. The actual wing is really simple. Just have to work out proportion, location and use less thread. I’m worried about the wing surviving my caveman like casting style.

I’m calling this the Peloton parachute since I’m sitting here waiting for my Peloton delivery and decided to mess around at the vise.
