flytire 0 Report post Posted November 22, 2022 Fox Hole Special Attractor Fly Pattern Hook - Mustad 3665A or equivalent, size 6-8 Thread - Black Ribbing - Flat silver tinsel Body - Black floss Throat - Yellow bucktail Underwing - Orange bucktail Wing - White marabou Shoulder - Mallard or teal flank Eyes (optional) - Painted black over white The Fox Hole Special is one of the better landlocked salmon streamers, and brook trout will take it as well. It’s a so-called attractor pattern, and best described as a dressed-up Black Ghost Marabou, with yellow and orange bucktail and a shoulder added, the latter to imitate a gill plate. The fly is easy to see, has great action, and is just different enough that it will catch fish in pressured waters where the fish see pretty much everything else. The Fox Hole Special is one of the top ten landlocked salmon streamers in Maine. Favorite Flies for Maine - Bob Mallard
Guest Report post Posted November 22, 2022 These will prolly never be polished enough for the arts but fishable. GreenButtSkunk and FreightTrain. Zoran great looking bug! Tried one with the “BirdFur” feather palmered followed by oval tinsel to secure. Kinda a pain and not the best outcome. Just placed this eye on to look dont ostracize me yet 🙃

Zoran 0 Report post Posted November 23, 2022 I tried to tie hybrid emerger with wire and pheasant tail body but sunk eventually in glass of water. I guess I have to minimize body materials and make fly float better, Looks kind of OK on pictures but needs work in reality:

niveker 0 Report post Posted November 24, 2022 15 hours ago, Zoran said: needs work in reality Very nice looking fly, as you said. I'm sure it would work well just as it is, fishing it like a flymph or winged wet. Maybe slap that hackle right behind the eye and in front of the foam for more movement. Best to send that reject to me for testing.
