Fly Tying

The challenge thread!

Recommended Posts

Any interest in a “Fly Challenge Thread”?

Here is how it works

1. Tyer that accepts challenge has up to 5 days to tie the fly and post a picture, some leeway will be allowed on the number of days.

2. Only the first tyer that accepts the challenge will tie and post a picture of the fly

3. After posting pictures of the completed fly, that poster then names a new challenge fly.

4. Any version of the challenge fly is acceptable

5. Have fun, this is not a competition, just a way to see some different versions of flies

6. Flies should be tied "fresh" for the challenge you accepted. Don't pull 'em out of the already tied box.

Sounds like it might be fun.  Speaking for myself, I would probably need more than a day or two to tie the fly, depending on what it is of course.

What kind of timeframe are you thinking?

For me, a week to play it safe, though I would probably get it done sooner.

A longer time frame may also encourage newer tyers to take part.

If I have all necessary materials or substitute I would join the challenge! Week is great timeframe.

Sounds fun to me- only limitation would be if substitutes are allowed (color too)

Ok, let’s give it a go, re-read the guidelines as I have tweaked them a little.

For the first fly, let’s start with a fairly easy one, a fly I have had great success with on some great rivers:

RUBBER LEGS NYMPH

Again, your version,

This thread is going to make me bring in a vise and materials to work...

Sounds like a great idea.  Unfortunately, I don't have a camera!  Had a great Cannon about 15 years ago but I went on a trip and on the way home some baggage handler must have needed a last-minute gift for their spouse!  But I do hope to see this work.
