.Al Troth's "American Pheasant Tail Nymph"

I will take this one.

This will be literally the first  fly I have tied since eye surgery two days ago. All went well but my depth perception is a bit off.

DUNNIGANS PANTY DROPPER NYMPH
Hook TMC2487 size 14

Thread - UTC 70 dark brown

Bead - 7/64 Gold bead

Antenna - Dark Dunn micro fibbets

Tail - Brown hen fibers

Ribbing - Silver ultra wire, small

Body - Red polish quill

Thorax - Chartreuse ice dub

Legs -  Silli legs chrome nymph barred green/black

Wing case - brown speckled thin skin/mirage opal tinsel/UV resin

Too much going on with this fly. I can tell you I won’t be tying any more of these. Maybe I’ll just lose the thin skin and tinsel next time and just do a simpler flash back. The rubber legs are going to be the rump shaker of this fly and I can’t wait to fish it.

NEXT FLY - YELLOW SALLY

Brown's Crayfish

Nice, I haven't tied one in a while, been using a different pattern for a crayfish, does well in the lake.

Gonna tie a few of these, they seem to do better in the streams.  I stopped tying those overdressed crayfish patterns, the simple ones do just as well, for me anyway.

Nice tie. I don't usually see them with that tail but I'm not much of a salty guy. I like it.

I'll take the merkin crab. I've got my annual trip to the Brewster flats coming up next month, a crab pattern might be useful.

It may take me a few days, so if anybody wants to take it on before, please feel free.

I typically omit the tail as it gets quickly destroyed by bluefish and spanish mackerel. I find the biggest virtue of the surf candy is being practically indestructible against toothy critters. But i figured for the challenge thread I would copy the orginal.

The merkin is a great pattern, easy to tie and versatile. Have some fun with it.

Bonus points if you discover the real meaning behind the name...
