The next challenge fly is a Light Spruce dry fly.  Sometimes just called Spruce. Since I don’t see any online recipes for this fly, I’ll post it here.

Hook: standard dry fly hook

Thread: black

Tail: moose body hair

Body: rear half - red floss: front half peacock herl

Wings: badger hackle points

Hackle: badger

The general style is that of a Catskill dry fly. If you have the old Orvis Pattern Index or Poul Jorgensen’s Modern Trout Flies, you will find it there. An effective and under-utilized pattern.

I'll take the Light Spruce only because it got me to dig into my Indexes of Orvis Patterns which I haven't done in years.

That was a challenge.  I haven't done a dry like this for years.

Next pattern up is Leisenring's Old Blue Dun Flymph.
