Letort Hopper

Nice.  Clean.  I've been tying up a few different hopper patterns for next year, have not done this one yet, but will give it a go with a few different body colors.  Looks simple compared to Gartside's pheasant hopper or Dave's hopper

I'd much rather tie Gartsides. Knotting those pheasant tail fibers for Dave's hopper drives me nuts. I use flexament on the pheasant feather wing

I was going through my bins of hooks looking  for tmc 2457 thinking it was the closest i had to czech nymph hooks. Look what i found, i have no idea why i have these, i never tied on these hooks before. At least i have the proper hooks. It even says authentic haha

thread- uni 8/0 light olive

lead wraps---- every vid i watched showed lead tape that i dont have so i alternated .10, .15, .20 and .25 lead wire and made a tapered body

brassie golden olive wire

thin skin light olive

dubbin- senyo laser dub in light olive, chartreuse and hot orange

legs- brahma hen light yellow

and sharpie the head black

A BOMBER will be the next challenge

Don't need much for materials, some deer hair and hackle. Can be tied with or without a tail or wing, many color combination, bomber, salmon, nymph or streamer hooks it don't matter.

WHO's going to take on the bomber challenge

I’ve fished a Letort hopper on the Letort before so I’m accepting my qualifications and qualifying myself as a Letort hopper expert. That is the finest looking Letort hopper I’ve ever seen which is what I thought I would see when flytire took the challenge.  If I were a Czech nymph expert I would say the same about upnorths challenge. I’ve just never tied one before but I think I’m going to in the future. Nice job!

thanks everybody for the nice words on the two bit hooker fly. I really liked tying that fly and will tie some more to fish it next year.

Hook- Saber 7060 size 10    Thread- olive monocord

Body- Calf tail, tail and reversed wing, spun deer hair clipped with furnace hackle.

Next up your choice of any traditional quill winged wet fly
