i'm gonna drop out of the challenge for awhile.

it seems its the same 5-6 tyers doing all of the tying (not a bad thing) and no new tyers participating

i'll continue to monitor and update the challenge list once a week

Ingalls Butterfly

Nice work on the Butterfly, goat was the original dressed wing. many use calf tail now. goat is said to give the wings the fluttering action on the retrieve as it was designed.

Gray Goose Midge Emerger

Hook: #12 Scud hook*
Thread: 6/0 Black Uni-thread or equivalent
Rib: Fine silver wire
Body: Peacock wing fibers**
Wingcase: Peacock wing fibers**
Thorax: Peacock herl

* All recipes I read call for a #10 scud hook, which I though too big.

** Recipe called for natural or gray goose wing fibers.  I like the gray on this peacock wing feather better that the goose wing I had, which I thought was more brown than gray.

Apologies on the photo quality.  Still haven't got that part of the production set up yet.

Thanks CP,  I got the goat as part of an estate lot of materials and this is the first I’ve used it.  It sure stacks nice and I do like that wing.  If I tie it in more colours I’ll likely go with calf tail.  Easy to get those in a rainbow of colours.

Niveker, looks great.  I really need to improve the photo quality of my flies.  Found my digital camera with a macro mode now I just need to find the proprietary charger cable.
