Shaq 0 Report post Posted June 6, 2005 Any Vt'ers out there have any suggestions for next Saturday. A fellow NY'er and I make an annual pilgrimage to the Green State on the free lisence days. We have hit the Battenkill, the third branch of the White, the White, the Winooski 2x because we love it. We were thinking of Queechee gorge or the Lamoille this year. Anybody have any suggestions of anything I am missing? We would entertain any "off the wall" "outside the box" ideas as well. Of Course, any spot revealed will be paid back in the form of a NY spot and kept under careful wraps, fished catch and release, and clean. Thanks In Advance, Geoff
Philly 0 Report post Posted June 8, 2005 Shaq: Not a native Vermonter, but a flatlander that's fished the state for the last 25 years. You might try the Dog River. Also, the Ouattaquechee, between Woodstock and Bridgewater, I've taken some nice trout from there over the years. Queechee gorge holds fish, but you be surprised how many people make the trek to the bottom. The Black River below Ludlow. It's managed as a trophy section and there a lot of 20 inch plus fish in it. The upper Black River where it comes out of a series of lakes on Rt 100 just above the junction of 103. It holds some stocked brookies and wild browns, also smallmouth and rock bass. You might find some fish in the Black below Plymouth Union on 100. There used to be brookies in it, but the state started stocking bows in it. Not sure how it would fish now haven't been there in a couple of years, but there's a small stream that runs along 100A that's yielded some brook trout and rainbows. I've always done well on caddis patterns, the CDC and Elk in particular. Make sure you have some in your box. If you're driving along a stream and find a pull off with access give it a try, a lot of people drive by the smaller streams while looking to fish the famous ones. Guest Report post Posted June 10, 2005 Shaq, I"ll second the Dog River (It's my fave plus it's right across the street from my house LOL) in Vermont but with one BIG WARNING!!! Make damn sure you get the rules and regulations book cause it's been broken into about 4 sections and each one has different rules, although you say your C&R fishing but always better to be safe than sorry, and the wardens are out big time this year. Another place you can try is below the dam in Waterbury, they're still working on it but the cold water coming out has kept the trout going pretty well. You can always try the below the dam in Middlesex too. Enjoy and have a great time Fatman
