Guest Report post Posted December 10, 2003 Why is it that hooks come in 25, 50, 100 and 1000 and everyone seems to want flies tied in a dozen? It must be a carry over from the dozen crawler's people were use to buying. What do you think? OSD.

Guest Report post Posted December 10, 2003 Trust me on this one. I've done big commercial tying orders (1,000+ counts). You don't want to do them. Was a short lived career for this kid. LOL. And when you do them, it's pretty much 100-300 of one size/style fly. Then another couple hundred of another. I prefer to simply tie for clientele now. Much happier. Guest Report post Posted December 10, 2003 I don't know why that is, but I've seen old boxes of hooks that were labeled by the gross (144) which is 12 dozen. It may be that at one time gross counts were more common than what we're familiar with today, so selling flies by the dozen may have made more sense. I saw an ad, or a website several years ago that had flies for sale per 10, but don't think it did too well. Once people get used to buying in familiar quantities it's hard to get them to change.
