Caddis larva

Recommended Posts

Friends, here is my first try on a caddis larva. The colouring go a bit strange, it seems that the markers didn't stick on the body material. So I'll re-colour this one later, but thought I'd show it to you anyway. I'll update it with more pictures later.

I'm experimenting with body material for the moment by using a kind of rubber tube used by electrician for isolation. The really smart thing about it is that when heated it shrinks down to 1/3 of it's original size!

Here's how the second try is coming along, this time I let the segments partly cover each other, looks better.

And here's how the secon one turned out, I think it got better than the first one. Underboyd of copper wire (if I use lead it melts when heating the tube sad.gif ), the gills are ostrich and legs pheasant tail fibers.

Hello newb0999 & welcome along. The pheasant feathers that seem to work best with this technique are those from the tail of golden pheasants. Simply hold 1 fibre & pull it away from its natural direction on the quill & you will (after a few attempts) be left with perfect individual legs.
