cphubert 0 Report post Posted March 21 Carrie Stevens Reverse tied bucktails- reverse tied bucktails developed by Carrie for saltwater a pattern that never it into her regular repertoire, later made famous by Keith Fulsher (Thunder Creek) she had two patterns saltwater and freshwater. I had previously never heard of her developing this style, as a tier without any training Carrie gave us glued wing assemblies and reverse bucktails. Unsure of original hooks used but she seemed to favor Allcock's, I have used a Mustad 9674. References; Carrie Stevens (Hilyard), Streamer Fly Tying and Fishing (Bates) Hook- Mustad 9674 #2 for salt #6 for freshwater, thread- red, body- red thread lacquered, wing /head- Salt 2 saddle hackles (blue, red or green) tied on top/ buckktail tied in reverse and folded back to form bullet head with red collar. Head and collar well lacquered. Unsure of her color choices as she was well versed in color selections with her Rangeley style flies Quote Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
SalarMan 0 Report post Posted March 21 Looks good cphubert. I just finished looking at the pictures of these flies in Keith Fulsher's book. The biggest difference between his work and us mere mortals is tyers use too much material which means the head will not have that slim sleek look the design calls for. It isn't easy to do, and it took me quite a while to finally get the appearance that makes the fly so special. Even after sitting with him back in the day I still had to control my urge for the amount of material to put on the hook.
