I have this idea to deal with the over excess amount of tying stuff everyone seems to have cluttering up their bench or tying room.

Do any of you think this could work? I think it could be fun.
Start a “traveling box” swap.

Yea or Nay?

Nay, been in a couple of these, one had nothing useable, the other stopped somewhere and never got forwarded to me.

I actually think it sound like a good idea, but I agree with the others about the actual implementation.  Too bad.

Maybe a thread dedicated to only swapping materials, which would be solely a transaction between two parties?   You know, like I have a lot of this and I'm looking for a bit of that.  But I  guess the classifieds can be used for that.

We do kind of a cool think in my fly  tying club.  Anyone who has some extra materials, bags it up and puts on the raffle table.  Buy a bunch of raffle tickets at the start, and when meeting is over,  the numbers are called and you get your choice of whatever is on the table until all is gone.  Money goes to the club.  I've got some good stuff, and occasional crap, but for a buck a ticket to support the club, its worth it.

Damn it Bob.  Now you got me cleaning up my mess.  My wife likes it neater but I think she noticed how many hooks I was organizing last night.  I am probably gonna be on probation.   She is even talking about feeding me salads again.

I realize this is an older thread, but I'll post my 2¢ worth anyway.  Decades ago my wife declared my tying bench was an embarrassing "$h1t Show", and bought me an antique roll-top desk. It was actually great with all the drawers and cubby holes, and I could cover up my mess.  But soon I even outgrew that, so had to buy a separate cabinet with 19 drawers - which is now also completely full!  Both pieces of furniture are fairly well organized, but I still buy duplicates all the time, particularly dubbing and plastic midge d-rib / micro tubing.  Collecting materials is sort of an "illness", but a fun one!

Regards,
