Steeldrifter 0 Report post Posted May 9, 2023 Been working pretty much daily for the past week getting the bonsai garden into shape for the summer. Pretty much done now. Got everything weeded/cut/planted/trimmed etc etc. Some of the hosta and other flowers still are not fully up but it's looking good once again. I hate being stuck in the city but this gives me a place to get away from it all every summer.

I fear my wife will see all his work and accomplishments and expect the same from me

I'd set up a hammock and sleep out there. I got about 1/2 an acre I have to contend with, sometimes it can be a little much.

Steeldrifter 0 Report post Posted May 17, 2023 Been thinking about doing this for a while now. Most bonsai/Japanese gardens all have some sort of "entrance" into the garden. So after getting back from fishing today I'm still waiting on some rod parts to show up tomorrow, so used the rest of the day today to build an entrance into my bonsai garden. Really pleased with the way it turned out. Two of my favorite bonsai now welcome you into the garden entrance.

cphubert 0 Report post Posted May 17, 2023 Nice addition, I had to raise my arbor a little bit (8") I poured bag mix concrete into plastic window box planters used for forms. After removed I added lead shields to secure the arbor to and painted them white to match. Works well and adds a little weight to the base, for additional stability I drilled thru and pinned with rebar pins, better than the plastic stakes mine came with. Steeldrifter 0 Report post Posted May 21, 2023 Finished up the entrance into the bonsai garden which I started building last week. Looks totally different than it did just 10 days ago when it was just all empty grass and dirt. Added some more flower beds, moved my Azalea, my rose bush, the Peony, number of hosta and ferns as well as mulch and other things.

Steeldrifter 0 Report post Posted May 22, 2023 Thanks. I'm hoping the Azalea does well over the summer and then blooms next spring. I bought that one a few years ago and it bloomed really nicely the first year, but the past 2 yrs it hasn't bloomed. The Forsythia which was behind it grew so big I think it stole all the water and sun from the Azalea and kept it from blooming. So I think moving it out into the open now hopefully will get it going again next spring.
