flyflinger 0 Report post Posted June 8, 2023 I just stumbled across this diagram on the Tiemco website. Just thought it was interesting, so would share . . . They make good hooks - just pretty expensive!

utyer 0 Report post Posted June 8, 2023 The chart is a good one, but the only thing I use it to look for different useful hook configurations. Then I find more cost effective similar hooks. Cant justify the expense.
flyflinger 0 Report post Posted June 8, 2023 Yes sir! . . . in fact, Tiemco even has a "budget" line (U-Series) of hooks now. However, I tie a lot of small flies down to size 24. Years ago I got frustrated with losing fish to bent-out hooks (both myself and my guided clients), and had good luck with Tiemco and Gamakatsu. Back then, I had really bad luck with Mustad - I understand they are doing much better these days. I think as you go up in hook size, manufacturing/tempering process matters a little less. I've also been experimenting with the plethora of fairly recent hook makers like Fulling Mill, Firehole Outdoors, Hanak, and Ahrex - the jury is still out on those. I understand that Daiichi and Mustad have apparently done well in stabilizing their tempering process. Regards,
niveker 0 Report post Posted June 8, 2023 Very useful chart. My local shop has the equivalent Tiemco # on his 'house' brand of hooks.
Sandan 0 Report post Posted June 10, 2023 I've had 0 problems with firehole sticks and fulling mill hooks. Both get my vote.
Facemelted 0 Report post Posted August 27, 2023 Fun fact: Tiemco is NOT a hook manufacturer. Never have been. It's just a brand. Most TMC hooks are made by Maruto.
