Trouttramp 0 Report post Posted June 24, 2023 A major heart attack, 4 stints and 1 or two more to go, I will be away from the bench for a while. I have a steep recovery curve ahead, with lots of meds and many restrictions. All last week in the CICU was just the start of the climb. We are fortunate the have one best cardiac hospitals on the west coast here in Oregon. I was eve more fortunate go get in so soon after my event. I won’t be tying or fishing for a while, right now standing and walking short distances are the goals. Thanks to all on this site for all the support in this great hobby. I will be following, but probably not posting. Keep up the great tying. TT
Gene L 0 Report post Posted June 25, 2023 Get strong and follow Dr. Orders. Fly tying isn't a cardio event, so you'll probably be back to it sooner than expected. I have had 3 open-heart surgeries and I'm active when I want to be.
flyflinger 0 Report post Posted June 25, 2023 Blessings upon you TT. The medical/cardiac profession has come a long way, and if you handle the treatments and follow-up instructions and rehab, you should be doing better very soon. I had "open heart surgery" and a stent last year and am recovering just fine. At some point in my recovery, I actually found fly tying to be therapeutic. Actually going fishing takes a little longer . . . Gene has also had a tough road - peace be with you! Regards,
mikechell 0 Report post Posted June 25, 2023 Quadruple bypass 4 years ago. Up and walking around in the hospital less than 4 days after the surgery. Do everything they tell you and you'll be fine. Good luck, and remember, fishing would be considered light cardio, unless you're running after fish swimming downstream.
cphubert 0 Report post Posted June 25, 2023 Good luck TT, had a cardiac event in 2009 pretty good now but will never be a marathon runner. Follow the instructions post op and stay with the cardiac rehab as long as possible. Will keep you in our prayers.

SalarMan 0 Report post Posted June 26, 2023 I had a triple bypass and aorta repair on a Monday in August 2016. After 9 1/2 hours on the table I was home on Saturday as well as up and walking. After 2 weeks I started cardiac rehab. Then 12 weeks later I was pretty much doing what I wanted...within reason. I'm still doing fine, going to the gym 3 days per week, FOLLOWING DOCTOR'S ORDERS, plus making sure to take my meds as prescribed. I truly believe you will be surprised how quick your recovery is. Good luck, get well and thing positive!!!!! Wishing you all the best, George
vicrider 0 Report post Posted June 26, 2023 Fortunately I am unable to share my bypass stories with you like so many others. I am hoping for your recovery to go well for you and go easy on things for awhile but don't let yourself hit a plateau and be satisfied with it like I've done with my hip and COPD. I could be living a lot better with what problems I've had if I didn't accept just getting by as the answer. You're over the first hurdle which is living through what you had done, now start finding your way back. Looking forward to your reports on the board even if you're not tying or fishing for awhile. That's what the LODGE forum is about. Like others, wishing you the best going forward, Nick
Trouttramp 0 Report post Posted June 28, 2023 Thanks all. Update, add a small stroke to the 5 stints, and heart output 20% of normal. Long road ahead. The stroke affected my left eye, my good eye, but luckily I can see enough to get by. Driving again is probably never going to happen for me. Fishing will be a challenge at best, but will try to tie again someday. Keep up the good work, I love to see all your creations. TT

TT TT I had a major heart attack at 48 years old, with 3 stints and here I am at 57. Listen to your doctors and move forward. I was told that my particular event had a 30% survival rate. I now look at it as a blessing in that now I'm aware that I have an issue. Prior - as so many do I thought it that chest pain was heart burn. Now I know better- God's speed in your recovery. Gene L 0 Report post Posted June 28, 2023 Stints are a godsend. I had my first cardio incident when I was 35 years old. My second was in 1986 when I was 41. My third was about 2100 or so. Cardio, open heart surgeries last about 10 years, or so they did for me, and what the expectations are. Stints, I don't know. I believe there are 5 major blood vessels in the heart. My record was 5-4-5, replaced. I have so many patches on my heart they can't stint it.
