December Flies From the Vise

Recommended Posts

Posting on another site and the subject of Lacy Gee's Gimp pattern came up.  Using different material/colors for the body, wing, and hackle along with the mention of Starling in the same discussion, got the wheels churning and I came up with with.  I make no claim to originality.  I'll call it a Gimp variation, since that was the catalyst.

👍👍  I can see this as a variation of the Jassid or Leaf Hopper variation as well.

Norm, if you were going to fish the Critter, would you glue down the peacock herl?

Gorgeous flies, everyone.

Burke's Aggravator

Little bigger, changed up the colors from the one posted in the Challenge thread.

Aggravator4.jpg

Hook: #8, 2xl

Bead: 5/32 brass

Weight: Lead wire

Thread: tan, 6/0

Tag & rib: FTD Norther Flash, copper

Tail: Tan & black marabou

Abdomen: Hare’s mask

Legs: FTD Bug Legs, amber gold, wacked with a brown mahkah

Thorax: Hare's mask, dubbing loop

Wing case: Turkey tail feather slip, coated with SHHAN

I kinda like the looks of this pattern.  I'll tie up a few more.  With all due respect to Mr Burke though, I'm thinking the marabou tail should be changed to something stubbier and stouter, maybe a clump of hare's mask, a la a gold ribbed hare's ear.  Thoughts anyone?
