Nice Mice! How do you avoid clipping the whiskers when trimming?

Simply pull em up or down and get in with the ✂️

The approach I used to take was to shape and  trim up to the point where the whiskers were to be set, then tie the moose whiskers and then stack and trim the nose.  Bruce’s technique is much more efficient of course.

Interesting, I often leave the tips on before trimming, I’ll tie in just the buts so I can pick out the whiskers when I give it a go

I’ve wondered before if I would trap less hair if I trimmed between bunches but to your point on efficiency, this would add time to an already time consuming tie.

thx for the tips both of you!

I tie my the way Chris Helms showed me, (for the mouse ), tie in back section up to where the ears go. Then I trim that section, add the ears followed by one clump ( top and bottom). Then trim that, add whiskers followed by final clump. Then I carefully trim around the whiskers and steam for final trim

As far as trapping hair there is a simple solution, after tying in clump, cut a square of plastic bag and cut a slice in it, that allows you to pass it through the thread followed by wrapping it around bundle. I then use a bag clamp  to hold back hair then work forward, give it a try.

Thx Bruce. Your pics are incredibly helpful.  I tried the plastic but missed putting a slice in and thing when a little haywire.

Thx for the tips on the Whiskers and layering JohnnyQ and Bruce.  Got back to deer hair at the vise tonight.

I can’t believe I didn’t think to put a slit in the bag.  The mind is a silly thing some days.  I thought it was ridiculous to hitch then restart the thread to have to cut out the plastic out.  Should have realized there was an easier way but the forum saved me some frustration and showed me the way yet again.

Alternating the tip direction of the bunches gave this little guy a nice little Charlie Brown Sweater. He’s already scared the Mrs once so it was definitely time well spent at the vise.
