Weighted zonker body? lead

Recommended Posts

Does anyone have any info on these weighted bodies? He called it a weighted zonker body. Shaped like an arrow at the front. Looking to buy. Thank youC84AAB9D-A117-44E5-836B-B62F2C65AFC6.jpeg.ba3dfee0f7c13d9b253c25055e1c5ce0.jpeg

Never heard of them. Looking at them, I can’t think of one single reason why I would buy them. What are you trying to accomplish with them?

I don't know about those specific weights, but lead sheets cut to similar shapes were used, by some, under the mylar tubing on Zonkers to shape and keel the body.

Where did you see these?

I can get a mold made if I can borrow a couple. No big deal if not. I have a friend who makes molds for weights. Thank you

Some years ago, back when bendback style patterns were popular I needed a bit of weight on one pattern to allow it to sink upright before beginning a slow stripping retrieve.  I checked with one of my wholesalers and was told that he had a bit of square lead wire (in size .040...) that would do nicely.  I learned to use a small pair of nippers to cut a 1/2" piece of the wire with carefully tapered ends - then before adding any body material, I'd tie in that piece of lead like  a keel on the bottom side of an inverted hook (with hook in vise, point down, that is with wire piece on top - then removed the hook and placed it point up once the lead wire and body materials were in place before adding the wing.  Here's a pic or two...

There is also sticky lead tape which used to be popular for weighted zonkers.  Jstockard still sells a couple brands of the tape.   Lead is not legal everywhere (for good reasons) which may be one small factor for the huge popularity of beads.  Check your local regulations.
