The SAN-Vise

Recommended Posts

I ran across something on the internet called the "SAN-Vise". Looks like a fine piece of equipment.
It is an obvious LAW copy. Anyone know anything about this vise? Such as is it still made and the cost?
Just curiosity on my part.

You got any pictures, or a link?

No to both points. The only info I could find was a YouTube video. Nothing about where it is/was made, pricing...nothing.

Thanks for that Norm...but I am not on Facebook and I don't have plans to change that.

I may put out an inquiry on another site I occasionally go to.

Found the Youtube video with answers in the comments section.  It might be made off-shore because a number of comments are not in English.  However, one comment as to price was is English asking price.  The reply was "676 pounds."

676 pounds = 881.02 USD.

Just FYI, you can get many of the attributes of the LAW Vise (and its clones) with a USA made product from HMH called the TRV Vice at around $600.    https://tyingvise.com/product/hmh-trv-vise/    or   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Po6zq0Xw2JI

There is also the FNF Talon Vise (Scotland) at about $900 (mentioned by Bruce above).    https://www.flyfishfood.com/products/fnf-talon-vise?srsltid=AfmBOoqz4oN9-4PxmUOjfn3Wuak84xuQ4jOiDI0-gHjJVp5MvSGhnx2A  or  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k3JoqeFTqDM

Thanks for your thoughts guys. I have no need nor any desire to but one of these, this was just a matter of my curiosity as a fly tyer who has a bit of a thing for vises.

Bruce - Bob Selb has an FNF Talon in his shop The Classic Fly Fisherman, and while a beautifully made vise, it will not do what I need because of a rather limited hook size capacity. I've seen lots of the other LAW copies and they are very nice, but I happen to agree with the late Ronn Lucas, Sr. that the LAW is highly over rated.

Thanks flyfinger...I own and tie on a HMH TRV which has become my go to vise ever since Mark Knapp used his skills as a machinist to modify it to expand its ability to hold hooks larger than 2/0. I also have a Renzetti Master as well as a Cottarelli T-Rex and I'm sure you already saw my comments on the FNF Talon.

SalarMan,

Yeah, I almost bought a TRV . . . but I tie mostly very small stuff (18-24), so I recently ended up with a Petitjean Swiss-Vise Master.
