Regards, Excellent choice. A fellow in my fly tying club uses one and it is one fine vise!! My TRV also still handles the tiny hooks, it's just that I wanted it to handle a wider range of hook sizes as well. The LAW design jaws are so ergonomically well designed I couldn't resist. DFoster 0 Report post Posted October 28, 2024 I have to say of all the LAW copies out there that I have seen this one looks the closest to the original (at least from the photos). To my eye it looks like an exact copy.
Gene L 0 Report post Posted October 28, 2024 I think the LAW vise is important simply because it was the first vise designed as it was. But that's been a while. There are plenty of copies (and I use that word in a friendly way) that are probably as good as the original. Since there is no patent on the LAW, other companies have copied it and done so quite well. It's vise evolution; I don't know that the LAW is necessarily the ultimate any longer. Don't know why it would be. Sure, it's more expensive, but that's a result of collectability rather than pure utility.

Agreed- I would add that the TRV is still the least expensive of the LAW copies out there (at least if you live in the U.S.). and can be had starting at $550. Most if not all of the other LAW copies are in the neighborhood of a $1,000. I'm a fan of the LAW design, it's just a personal preference thing. After 5 years and I don't know how many flies I still love my TRV.

DFoster 0 Report post Posted December 10, 2024 I think the conversion puts the sale price somewhere at 3 grand, a steal. The last LAW I found on ebay was listed for $15,000. Not sure if it sold.
